Question re: Mirena (possible TMI)

So today marks 4 weeks since I got the Mirena. So far, no problems at all, save one. I haven't stopped spotting/bleeding since. It goes away a little bit, then comes back. It's annoying because it's kind of like rain that's only heavy enough to keep the ground wet. Either stop, or get it over with!

I'm not cramping or anything, but I'm wondering #1, when should the bleeding stop and #2 if this is something I should talk to my OB about. I'm not too concerned, but I just want it to stop already.

Re: Question re: Mirena (possible TMI)

  • I'm trying to remember but I think it took about 4-5 months for the bleeding to completely stop.  Then no bleeding at all up until 2 months ago and now I notice that I'm spotting once a month.  Next April will be the 5 year mark for mine.

  • I bled, like normal flow, for at least 3 months.  Not the average, but possible.  After that I had nothing.

I had it removed about 5 months ago, went to a 3 month BCP.  Had some spotting when I should have, but not what I would call a real period yet.

  • I don't have one, but one of my coworkers does and she's on month 5 of bleeding.  She's considering getting it taken out because she's tired of dealing with it.

  • If I member correctly my OB told me you could spot for up to 6 weeks.  I spotted for a few weeks after each one.
  • Yeah, I remember continuing to spot for many weeks after mine and wondering when it would all end. You're still in the normal range though. Soon this will be a distant memory :)
