Evening fussiness

20 hours a day, I have the world's easiest, happiest baby. But between 6pm and 10pm, she's an inconsolable mess, Screaming and crying, refusing to eat. It's been like this for over a month now. Is this just a normal thing that everyone's dealing with? I've read HBOTB, and we manage to get through it every night, but man, it's grueling. She's such an incredibly awesome baby the rest of the day, though, I don't know if this is easier or harder than most people have it. And I thought it would start to improve after 6 weeks? That hasn't been the case for us...

Ever since DD was born, she has screamed every night. At first it lasted for about 3 hours. At about a month, it got a little better because we started using gripe water, but she still cries for a good 1-2 hours every night. We took her to the pedi a couple days ago and she says it's colic and told us gripe water does help some babies a lot, but she thought DD needed a pro biotic since gripe water wasn't cutting it. She told us to try Bio Gaia. Today was the second day we used it and it can take a week to notice a difference, so we'll see. I'm really hoping it helps her, especially after spending almost $40 on the stuff!

I know this isn't much help, but you're not alone!

  • DS is three months old and just started to conk out for the night at 8ish consistently.  Now when his fussiness gears up, I give him a bath to calm him and that will take us to his next feeding which causes him to pass out.

  • DS had a fussy window from 8 until midnight every single night before we started giving him a probiotic. The window is pretty much gone. He gets crankier than normal between 7 and 8 but by no means is it comparable to what it used to be. Thankfully our pediatrician is a big fan of simple fixes so we were just told to buy over the counter probiotic capsuls, open them and give him half. Super easy!

  • Our DD gets fussier as the day wears on, too.  We try to take her on a walk in the evenings in our baby carrier... to get outside tends to calm her down, and she usually falls asleep.  She wakes back up when we get home, then bath, feeding, and bed.

Since about 1mo, DS has a fussy time of around 6:30-8:30 every evening.  He is not so fussy if I walk him around or bounce him on my leg.  The rest of the day, he is an angel!

  • This describes my DD from 6 weeks on. Recently it started getting better. She started only crying one or two days a week. I heard that colic peaks around 6 weeks to 2 months. Hang in there. It will get better.
