Apparently I lost the "Who looks better" pg contest?

Just a small vent here...

So this past weekend was my SIL's baby shower (she's due two days after I am). Her mom took a picture of the two of us together, and my SIL then posted it on Facebook.

A few hours later, I see that one of SIL's friends commented on the picture (which was captioned, "Me and my sister-in-law"), "You win!!"

So of course I took this to mean that my SIL looks better than I do and is an overall cuter pregnant lady... I'm really not sure what else that comment could imply?? I know I shouldn't get too bent out of shape over it, because I don't even know the person who made the comment... but still! You don't say something like that when there's a chance that the other person (the "loser," apparently, of the "who looks better" contest) could see it. Especially when that person is full of pregnancy hormones and might cry at the drop of a hat. Sad

Okay, vent over... thanks for reading. Smile

WTH!?!?! Who does that!?!? Lets put that person in the picture and see how she fares! What a freak! Aren't we all different and aren't we in a time in society where we can and should embrace that!?!? Has she never seen a Dove for Women commercial!!?! This just makes me angry! I would throat punch her for you if I could! Of course I've gotten my share of twin comments and man you're big comments over the past week so I'm pretty sensitive to people analyzing other people based on looks! I'm sure you look beautiful and the prize isn't some ho hum girl at home on facebook saying you win, its the beautiful healthy baby at the end!?

Wow she's a B. I'm sure you were tagged in the picture so that girl really doesn't think before she types. I would write something like, "Aw you do look great--so glad we got this picture taken." Then that girl might realize what she wrote.

First of all - thank you ladies for your responses - I love this board! It's good to know I wasn't overreacting. Smile I actually did respond and sort of made a joke - I said, "She does look gorgeous, and I guess I look a little stoned haha." (Because while I didn't look BAD in the picture, my face was kind of goofy - and I was looking for a non-bitchy way to let the original poster know that I saw her comment.) And then my MIL responded saying, "What are you talking about? You both look gorgeous!!" So I responded by saying, "Thank you! I just felt the need to respond to acknowledge that apparently there was a competition going on that I wasn't aware of, but still lost." And of course the person who made the original comment hasn't anything... hopefully because she feels bad about it.

The funny thing is, in the picture you can't really see my SIL's bump - she's wearing a patterned dress that kind of camoflauges it, and it's a front-on picture of her. I'm standing a bit sideways and wearing horizontal stripes, so you can definitely see my bump... so maybe they were saying she looks bigger and "winning" that way, but... I'm not sure.

Here's the pic, for anyone who's interested. I will admit that my SIL (on the left) looks amazing, but then again, I didn't spend 2 hours primping myself before this photo was taken (because it wasn't MY shower...) haha. Smile

I agree. Or maybe it has nothing to do with you at all. Maybe the other girl is pregnant to and the commenter is saying your SIL wins and she loses (like your SIL is farther along than her.)

It is a pretty weird comment, but I wouldn't assume she is bashing you.

I LOVE your reply comments though... if the rude friend sees it, hopefully the underlying meaning she reads is "I'm an inconsiderate wank". I think you look adorable with your baby bump in that picture BTW.

One of my best friends is pregnant as well - she's about 2 months behind me - and I constantly feel like we're in competition! The comments and everything are just starting to get to me, I don't even really like being with her anymore. It's sad.

Thanks again, everyone - I initially felt a little bad for my "snarky" comment, but only until I reminded myself that her comment was way more rude, and that she should feel at least a little bad for it. Wink

A few minutes ago, my SIL responded to my comment saying, "I don't know what (the girl) was talking about, but I'm sure it didn't have anything to do with you - you look great!!" So bless her heart for trying to make me feel better about it...

Yeah, my SIL lives out of town so this is the first time I've seen her in person since we've both been pregnant... and while I don't get the sense from her at all that we're 'competing,' a lot of family members seem to imply that, and it's getting old! This whole weekend while she was in town, I loved spending time with her, but I couldn't help but feel like we were constantly being compared... and of course after seeing the comment on FB, I was all paranoid that I looked like crap in comparison. *sigh*

It was pretty funny though, when the two of us were walking around downtown with my husband (her brother)... we got some very weird looks. I kind of feel like people thought we were both pregnant with DH's baby?? Haha.

My sister and I are both pregnant right now (she's actually due the day before me) and we've gotten at least a couple questions about whether we're lesbian partners. Uh... what? Not only does that not make any sense at all (two pregnant women out together... must be lesbians!!) but we look enough alike to make it pretty clear that we're sisters.

Yup - no kidding! I ended up responding and was glad I did... even if I came across as snarky, so did the original poster, so whatever. My SIL didn't delete it, but she did make a nice comment on the thread. Her friend who originally commented hasn't responded, and I have a feeling she probably won't... probably because several people commented on it after I did (saying things like, "I don't know what that's supposed to mean, you BOTH look great!") and the original commenter probably feels like a jackass. Smile
