airport security?

I have less then 3 weeks and we fly to seattle with the boys. I want to bring the motrin for both especially since Bryce is majorly teething. Do I need to put the little bottles in a ziplock baggie and take it out when we get to security?

Are they going to make Bailey walk through the scanner alone? Little nervous that he's goign to get scared and not move.

Any other helpful info yall can give me to make this easy. Thanks!

Re: airport security?

  • They've become a little bit more relaxed, imo. I took a cooler full of milk, juice, yogurt, etc for Abigail when we flew out to California a couple weeks ago and they didn't even check it for fumes like they've always done in the past. (This is specific to Atlanta, though, all the other airports are still same strictness.) She was also on tons of meds then due to coughing, ear infection and allergies, so I just put all her meds in one ziploc and put the ziploc in the bin.

Also, if he doesn't go through himself, they'll let you carry him.

  • What Guz said.  Put the meds in the ziploc bag, and they should be able to let you carry him through.  They seem very kid-understanding at ATL.

  • My experience has always been that anything for a baby is safe in the diaper bag as long as they can see that you are travelling w/ a LO.  As for the scanners, I don't think you can carry the baby through them- not sure what they do.  You have to stand in a certain way and I don't think you can hold the baby while you do.  ATL seems to only use the scanners during "off" times.  If the line gets too backed up, they switch to just metal detectors.  So you might get lucky.  If you have the stroller, they will probably send you thru the family line anyway and won't have to deal with it.  My issue a few weeks ago was when I was travelling WITHOUT the baby.  They couldn't tell me if the scanners were safe for Breastmilk (I have my doubts about their safety, period) so I opted for the pat down.  OMG... that was a little too personal- now I see why there was such a stink about it.

For the full body scanners, yeah, I don't think you can carry him because you have to stand with your arms out. But I've only been through those once and that wasn't even in Atlanta.  But the regular metal detectors, you can carry him.

I think they've always diverted us (well, me and the baby) to the regular detectors once they see we have a baby - maybe to avoid the hassle?  At least that's what they have been doing in Florida and Boston.

Poor Brian, though - he never gets through easily with that beard of his!

  • Thanks ladies! We will have an umbrella stroller for each boy and we'll ask to go through the family line. I've flown so much in my life but never with the boys so this is all new to me.

I rarely go through the family line and still don't have any problems. So, if you don't go through the family line, don't stress.
