It was bound to happen....

After 5 months in her big girl bed, DD figured out how to get out.  Last night she came downstairs 3 times before falling asleep.  I am just grateful it took her this long to figure it out.  Tonight we begin lessons on when it is appropriate to leave after lights out.

  • She can open the door?  We keep DS door shut.  If he can't sleep he gets up and gets books and sits in bed and "reads"

  • Lol...must be something in the water!!! My DS has been a nightmare sleeper lately too and getting out of bed. We FINALLY got him to stay in his bed all night last night after laying down the law and telling him if he got out, it was back to the crib. And we had to leave his door open, lol. Good luck! I hope getting yours back to sleep isn't as traumatic as it has been with mine!

  • DD has always been able to get out of her big girl bed but her door is shut and has one of those knob covers on it. We also often hear her tell herself "no getting out of bed" LOL
  • I am so jealous that you had 5 months of her not figuring it out. DD figured out in 2 seconds how to get out and climb over the gate at the door.

  • We don't shut the door, it scares her.  I know, I really thought she would have figured it out MONTHS ago.

When we switched DD to her big bed (a regular full-size), we put a gate in her doorway and would leave the door cracked because if she ever needed us (or thought she needed us), she could open her door and call out but not be able to leave the room.  For whatever reason, she never left her bed, even during a month of atrocious sleep battles just after she turned two...we were amazed.  Maybe a gate would provide enough of a message to your DD?  Or is she not deterred by gates - or feeling caged in would just make her mad?
