How do you feel about oragel?

I know there are mixed feelings and I've read the horror stories. My DH has only heard the horror stories so he doesn't want me to use it, but LO has a 2nd tooth coming in. I think it's popped through but it was hurting him bad, he was SO miserable! So WDYT about oragel?

  • I still give a bitty amount to DS when I can tell he's hurting (his are cutting right now and taking foreverrr). I don't give it to him before bed, just during wake time. I've also been freezing some of his purees and putting them in the mesh feeder which he likes. My Pedi suggested the Pedialyte pops but I'm going to wait until he's older for those.

  • I'm not going to use it.  Honestly, I'm probably going to do what my mom and all of my aunts did- cold wash cloth on the gums or dip a finger in whisky and rub it on the gums. Flame me if you must but I'd rather that than all those chemicals. Also, it's not like we're pouring a shot down LO's throat, actually there won't be any liquid even going in her mouth at all.

  • I'm considering using the oragel sticks as opposed to just the goopy stuff.  From what my friends have said--its a complete godsend and works well!

  • I think there is an orajel natural without the concerning chemical you could use.  I think we'll just stick to teethers and tylenol.
I give up trying to get a ticker.  I have a DD that is 2.5 years old and is awesome.  Maybe I'll add a quote to distinguish myself.  Hmmm.  How about...

  • We aren't teething yet but I have Baby Oragel in the medicine cabinet if we need it.  I plan on using it (with supervision and never right before bed) if tylenol/ teethers don't cut it.

  • I use peppermint oil, it works great, I just have be quick to swipe and not let her suck my finger because of the flavor,

  • I bought the natural orajel without the scary ingredient, but I haven't used it yet. I think using the regular stuff just doesn't make sense given the new warning.
