Have you checked to see if your LO qualifies for SSI benefits. I know that we automatically qualified because of DD's birth weight. We were able to receive medicaid through SSI and it covered our co-pay, so we didn't have to pay a thing for Angelina's 16 week NICU stay. It may be worth talking to a social worker about !
You know the average is that we'll spend just over a million dollars on our LOs by the time they turn 18. Little one is going to be a BIG BIG spender, momma!

Good point! My "big guy" was 2 lb 10 oz at birth and he qualified for both programs.

Ditto this. For my hospital bed rest of 6 days, 4 days post-partum and DS's 116 day NICU stay at TWO different hospitals our bill was actually a little higher than yours. We had excellent insurance, but he also qualified for SSI and Medicaid and we ended up paying only $1,500 OOP which was a $500 co-pay for my stay and his stay at two different facilities. Definitely look into it if you haven't already!

Sam was 1010g so he did qualify for SSI, but my stays and the testing on his twin weren't covered in full. Apparently, hospital bedrest isn't medically necessary with an extremely high risk case.
I'm thanking my lucky stars for SSI!
