Feeling lost - LO won't sleep during the day

LO will probably fall asleep tonight around 11:30PM or midnight and sleep til 5:00AM or so. I'll then nurse her and she may sleep for another 3 hours. Problem is, for the past few days she then stays up all. day. long. She may doze off at the breast during feedings but as soon as I try to move her she wakes up. She cries a lot throughout the day, sometimes screaming, and I can tell she gets so over tired. But I can't get her to nap. I'm at a loss. What am I missing?

    Does she fall asleep in the car or stroller?  Ben will zonk out if he's in the car or stroller on a walk.

    this was happening to me at one point. my ped told me to lay her on her belly and keep watch. At this point she already had some decent head control (3 1/2 weeks). Now she turns over anyway so we put her to bed on her belly all the time. It's the only way she sleeps now.

    Do you swaddle? Use white noise? I would try both of those things, try to start a routine of naptimes. Remember the white noise has to be LOUD.

    i'm in the same boat so interested in seeing responses...

    she will not take a paci either, for anything.

    it was the same with DS, trying not to go down the human-pacifier road again but nothing else seems to work save nursing and holding 24/7.

    i dont really get how one is supposed to nurse on demand and not be a human pacifier....i mean, essentially  that is what you are doing.

    Also, yesterday LO was calm and visibly tired but wouldn't fall asleep.  I put her in a sling b/c I needed to get some stuff done.  She was fast asleep within one minute, I'm not kidding.  I was able to take her out and put her into her bed without waking her.

    We use fans and very very loud shusshing sounds in her hear to calm her.  We swaddle her, hold her on the side she prefers to be held and then we shush in her ear really loud.  We also dance around or rock depending on how unhappy she is.  Usually as soon as we swaddle her she calms down and then it takes about 10-30 minutes for her to be in a deep sleep.  We do use our swing a LOT.  I highly recommend The Happiest Baby on the Block.

    Have you tried a Moby of similar wrap/carrier?  She might sleep if she is near you.

    We used to nap in the day and also sleep well at night but since she is now eating more she is sleeping like crap and hardly ever during the day.

    We usually put her down at 11pm and she sleeps until 2- eats and sleeps until 4-5 eats again and sleeps until 9 at the most. When she first came home she slept from 11-4:30 then ate and went back until 9. Now she is hungry all the time and we are bottle feeding to make sure she is eating enough. She is gaining proper weight but the doctor said that since she is so tall, she will try to eat to catch her weight up to her height. I hope this happens soon. I am seriously going to die if I dont get enough sleep soon.

    The wrap or carrier works for me every time. He'll wake up often - every half hour or so, he lets off a couple of waaaaails... then passes out again.

    As for the pacifier, he totally rejected them for a while - I think we started trying around 2 weeks. Just a couple days ago, he decided one kind was all right (Playtex Binky). The orthodontic shaped ones are still just not acceptable. So even if a baby rejects it in the start, try it once in a while and see if they'll change their mind. As to the "human pacifier" comments, that's your job for the first little while. If you DON'T let them comfort nurse, odds are your milk supply won't increase to meet bigger baby needs.
