My family is a Foreign Service family. Families like mine are posted in every corner of the globe. We live our lives away from family, friends and the conviences and comforts of home. We often live and work in dangerous places among those that misunderstand our intentions and purposes. Sometimes members of our ranks sacrifice our lives to further diplomacy.  Please remember that we serve too. And I'm always open to questions.

  • We had ours...DS was born at home almost three months ago!  If/When we have a third we will definitely be planning another homebirth.

  • Great!  I was checking out the board, and it seemed that most upcoming births are to be in the hospital.  Which is BTDT for me.

  • I planned one with my first and hope I get one this time too.
  • Im expecting my first baby and planning a homebirth.  I am so excited about it.  I work as a Doula in hospitals, and knew that I would never want to give birth in one.

  • We are planning to have our first baby in our home (EDD Sept 3rd), and we are really excited about it!

I'm doing Hypnobabies, and my doula trains people in Birthing From Within (which is awesome and the reason why I wanted a homebirth to begin with).

    Welcome!

I wish I could! I have heard such wonderful things about HB. But being that this is our first and my husband and a bigger worry wart than I, I promised to do it in a hospital ... to be honest I am dreading it!! I'd rather be home in my comfort zone or a birthing center, but I hope yours goes wonderfully!! :-)

OMG! Congrats on the BFP! I assume it's pretty recent? Or am I just out of the loop Smile

To the OP, DS was born at home 16 months ago, and I'll never give birth in the hospital again if I can help it.

  • Yes, it is recent and quite a shock.  We pretty much stopped trying last cycle and decided to just live for a while.  I even went out and got a part time job that I am starting in a couple of weeks.  LOL

We are very excited though.  I never thought I would say this (because I really do believe in charting), but not trying actually does work sometimes.

  • I had a homebirth...it was amazing! We absolutely plan on doing HB for all future children (assuming the pregnancy is low-risk,of course).

LOL! We tried for about 13 months with DS, including a miscarriage. (Admittedly, 7 of those months were post-IUD removal but pre-return of AF, so it was no surprise that I wasn't getting pregnant, but very frustrating to have to wait on my body like that.) At the beginning of May, I knew I was getting ready to ovulate, and we had sex once, about 4 days before O. Then I decided that I really didn't want to try that cycle after all, because I had just signed up for a summer sports league that I was super excited about. Wouldn't ya know, 2 weeks later I had a BFP, and it stuck Smile

Congrats again! I might be joining you later this summer... Zip it!

  • We're having a home water birth for our first in November!
  • Kewl!  It's our plan for January.  I already have a fab midwife team!  Home visits are awesome!

  • We just had our son at home 6 weeks ago (second child, first was a natural hospital birth).  We liked it a lot.

  • I had a home birth and it was the best decision I could have made.  The freedom of being able to walk around, change positions and not worry about a time table or meds being pushed on you (because you're not progressing on the time table) is very freeing.

  • What are your HB plans?  Who is going to watch the LOs?  Are you going to/did you freeze meals?

What kind of gifts for the midwives?

For the BTDT mommies:  How long after birth did you nurse?  How soon did you have visitors?

  • I would suggest asking your questions in a separate post, as others may not check back in to this one. But to answer them myself...

Who is going to watch the LOs? We called two friends who lived around the corner to watch DD until my mom arrived. (She was flying in.)

    Freezing meals? Nope.

Gifts for the midwives? None. I'm so bad. She really deserved something.

How long after birth did you nurse? Mmmm... about 15 or 20 mins, I think? I was still in the tub, and I hadn't delivered the placenta yet, so it was fairly soon. For some reason, I didn't think I could nurse while in the tub. Stupid, I know! Next time, I'll nurse even sooner.

How soon did you have visitors? Well, our two friends who had helped with watching DD stuck around until DS was born, and came in to see him. So, about 10 minutes after birth? Smile And I had some other friends come visit during the first week.

  • I'd doing a home birth/ water birth. It's our first baby.

I hear you get a medal for natural birth, which is why I am doing it. I figure I'll get a gold one if I go natural and at home!

    ;-)

I hate hospitals and we live in a great state that supports alternative birthing.

Girl!! I'm with you! This is our first too and I realllly wish I could have an HB but hubby is a worry wart too. So, I conceded. Plus, our insurance wouldn't cover it. I know it would be way cheaper than a hospital birth but our insurance covers that in full. I am active duty military, you would think, with the way the military likes to save $$ that they would allow HBs because they are cheaper! I am just looking forward to my next one, so I can say I want to have it at home. :) I agree about the whole comfort zone thing too. To me that would be so great, you would be in your on bedroom, own tub and not have to go anywhere afterwards. That seems so peaceful to me. (Sigh)
