If you were in charge of planning a 5th grade "graduation" ceremony, and you wanted parents to come, but it had to take place during the normal school day, what time of day would you plan the graduation?
I would plan it as close to the end of the school day as possible. That way working parents may have a chance to come by working through their lunch hour and leaving work early.
I would be better with this if it was either earlier or later.
Ultimately, it doesn't matter much: I'm a high school teacher, and DD's graduation is on the day my kids take their final exam. Exam is from 8:45 to 10:45; graduation from 9:15 to 10:15. I absolutely HAVE to be there for the exam.
My husband is going to go to the graduation, but his normal work hours are from 7 am to 4 pm. So, he's essentially missing a 1/2 day for this.
Which brings me to question #2. If he doesn't go, will DD be the only kid there whose parents didn't come?
Eh -- DH is definitely going to be there. It's just a bummer, because I work p/t specifically so I can be the one to handle kid stuff like this. I really WANT to go; DH is going because it's the right thing to do, kwim?

For DD's award ceremony yesterday, I would say about 1/2 to 2/3 showed up. Of course she still whined when I had to leave but what can you do.
Personally, I think it's important to have someone there for her. Any possibility for any other family members to come if your dh can't?
