This is our final IUI w/o inject cycle and my mind is already starting to plan our next move. I am pretty sure RE will suggest injectables for 3 cycle BUT I may ask to go straight to IVF. This is my deal :
I am 36, DH is 37 and this is HUGE issue for me. I was labeled AMA with my last pg and I am aware of the risks with age. The cost of IVF at my clinic is slightly more once I turn 37 (this December). We are DX as Unexpained. DS was conceived after 23 cycles. We have been trying for #2 for 15 cycles. I am not a nice person on my IUI med protocol ( I realize that the case will be the same or worse for IVF) and I just want to be done with meds and pregnant. I am pretty patient person except with IF. Money will be an issue but we are certain DH's family will loan us what we need need for IVF. Luckily us, bw, and visits are covered by insurance. My meds have a high co-pay but better than most girls.
WWSAIF do?
Re: Skipping Injects and moving to IVF???
ARe you doing an unmedicated or clomid iui? Have you started it yet? If not I would try an injectable cycle now instead. I did one IUI with clomid and that med made me much crazier than any injectables/IVF meds (but who knows, maybe I'm just baseline crazy now ; )
IVF is a HUGE committment, time wise and emotionally. If I thought I had a chance in hell at getting pregnant doing an IUI, I would try that first. AT least once.
Just my opinion. Good luck whatever you decide!
I have completed 2 cycles of Femera/Trigger/progesterone both BFN. I did 2 cycles of clomid when TTC#!. My current RE does not prescibe clomid.
Thanks...
I agree that doing one IUI with injects is smart because you don't know yet how you'll react to the meds. If you over stim on an IVF cycle you have to cancel. If you over stim on an IUI cycle you're not out as much. That way if you need to, you'll know exactly what doses make for a great IVF cycle going forward.
All this assuming you've had a HSG, hormone testing, and sperm analysis done already of course.
Been there, done that, got the t-shirt. Twice
I'd probably try a cycle of injects just to see how your body responds, then look into going to IVF if need be.
That said, I went from clomid with my ob to IVF with my RE. But that was because we had undiagnosed severe MFI and our Re thought IUI would be a waste of time (and money) for us. I was 36 when we did IVF and 37 when she was born. I stimmed differently than they expected, they definitely under-ordered meds for me at first!
I didn't. I didn't even do IUIs.
I had zero response to 250 units of clomid... so we sat down and disussed with our RE. I didn't want to "waste" our limited coverage on IUIs.
aaaaaand I wasn't getting any younger either. I'm so glad we did though, because it took us another year (4 fresh cycles and 1 FET) to get pregnant.
4 Fresh IVF cycles + 1 FET where embies didn't survive the thaw = 2 perfect little men!
sFET 11/9/11 - Beta 11/18 BFP!
Well, I skipped Clomid and went right to injects, and then skipped the 3rd inject IUI and went right to IVF. The main factors for me were (1) IVF was totally covered by insurance and (2) it was summertime and it worked out with work to take the time off for IVF. So those things weighed heavily on our decision. If IVF hadn't been covered, we probably would have tried IUI again.
I was VERY aggressive with IF treatments, so part of the decision was just my personality...so I never judge for people seeking help "early" or skipping ahead on treatment types. To each his own. The process sucks for everyone, so you just have to go with your gut.
Good luck!
i would definitely move to IVF if i were you. at my clinic, they actually recommend that everyone skips injectables and does IVF because of the risk of HOMs with injectables.
i think your impatience is very reasonable given your age, too--the sooner you do this, the better your chances of conceiving and having a low-risk pregnancy.
best of luck with whatever you decide!
