Birthday party vent!

My vent: I went to a cousin's child's bday today.  They no-showed K's party last week, but sent their kid with another family member without a gift.  So I fed their kid, entertained their kid, no big deal.  Flash forward to this week where I am expected to bring a gift and a side dish to their party.  I was a little peeved.

And then I realized I am being a total brat, I should just be happy to see family and celebrate with them and not get gifts for my kid, who really doesn't need more toys.  Sigh.  So I will vent to the bumpies and hope I don't sound like a jerk.

    Wow sounds like a family member of mine :) Nope I don't think you sound like a brat I would feel the same way.

    I would be peeved too.  And all the other stuff aside, I'd be annoyed that they wanted me to bring a side dish.  I'm fine with having a get together that's a potluck, but if you are having a party where you expect guests to bring gifts then don't make them bring food!

    I would be peeved too!

    We went to a party today too at a Mc Donalds for a friend's son & a gift was given as well as having to pay for mine & DH's lunch!   I was peeved though that it was Coop's birthday nearly a month ago and we are still waiting for a card/present from these same friends and no discussion about either of these was had! Some people have no shame!

    Vent away!  It amazes me how people that have kids kinda forget the golden rule of tread others how you want to be treated!  Its like people expect you to do all this stuff for them, but then dont return the treatment.

    I'm all about down-sizing party gifts, but that is just plain rude. I would have shown up sans gift (a nice handmade card by the child and that's it) and if anything was said (and who would even do that?), I'd respond, "Oh, I thought we weren't exchanging gifts?" ....and the potluck thing is ridiculous. It's a PARTY, you are hosting guests.
