Hawaii Babies

How does that saying go, "when it rains, it pours?"

Ever have a week when nothing seems to go as planned? My DH got word on Tuesday that he has to have outpatient surgery this Friday. As in the day before Cassie's birthday party. I spent the day yesterday calling all of our guests to nicely un-invite them :(

We decided to go ahead with the party, mainly because Cassie has really been looking forward to it, and also because the rest of this and next month is filled with other family functions so there was no time to really reschedule. I'm bummed because I've been planning for weeks but I know there will be other birthdays. At least I don't have to worry about there being a shortage of cake now, right? Stick out tongue

P.S. Anyone have a good recipe for pink lemonade?

  • Booo! I'm sorry. It sucks when things don't go as planned, especially when it's an event you've been planning. On the upside, more cake! Stick out tongue
  • I am sorry your DH has to have surgery and it's such bad timing :( I saw your car window on FB, too! ack! at least you are all ok.

i'm confused... when you say you are going to go ahead w/the party, do you mean you are just going to have a little party w/you, DH, and Cassie? :) I remember someone posting a recipe for pink lemonade before but I didn't save it. I know it involved using simple syrup which is basically 1 part water to 1 part sugar cooked on the stove.  hopefully someone will chime in w/the recipe

  • Hope your hubby is okay!

I don't have a pink lemonade recipe but my friend made awesome punch for my baby shower - it was just Sprite with raspberry (or whatever flavor you like) sorbet.  So yummy!

Aww thanks for the sweet compliment! I haven't been able to blog as much lately due to my DH's illness but I'm hoping to catch up soon :) Your little cutie pie is growing like a weed too! Lisa, the cake I order serves 40 people & the guest list is now at about 15...think I'll be eating cake all week :P Jaime, I meant to explain...we're going ahead with the party, but only with my immediate family which consists of my parents and my 3 siblings and their families. DH said he felt comfortable enough having them over and besides, we had already paid for a bouncy house and cotton candy machine. The more I think about it, this might be less stressful than the original plan! Thanks sanae, I'm hoping the hubs gets some relief after today! Another friend also suggested the sprite & sorbet so I might just have to try it.

  • I think it will still be really fun and much less stressful with fewer people....honestly Cassie won't know the difference between 15 or 40, she'll just be excited that she gets to have a party and celebrate w/family and friends :) I hope your DH's procedure goes well and his recovery is smooth!
  • I hope your DH feels better soon!

I do not have a recipe, but I will say that Whole Foods (or at least the ones here) all have Santa Cruz Organic lemonades on sale for $1 each right now (normally $2.99).  They make a strawberry lemonade and a cherry lemonade that are both so yummy.  We just bought a few cases and will use some for Henry's upcoming birthday party.
