f/u question to BF and pumping post

So I gave Maddie a bottle of EBM again tonight.  Given her reaction at the breast I figured she wasn't getting what she wanted and I've been worried about my supply all day.  In hindsight I think she's teething and comfort nursing in small meals.  I pumped right after I put her to bed and was able to get 3.5 oz so I know there was plenty of milk for her.  I noticed with pumping that it took forever for my letdown to happen and then I started thinking about how it's taking a lot longer for my letdown when she nurses too.  I'm thinking this is part of the problem.....it's worse at night, she's tired and not tolerant of having to suck without milk.  I think giving her the bottle is making it worse since she gets instant gratification.  Any ideas on how to help my letdown along quicker?  TIA!

Re: f/u question to BF and pumping post

  • Heat and/or some massage on the boobies before nursing helped me in the past (when I was having trouble letting down while pumping).  Worth a shot!

  • This happens to me almost every night. It sucks. I haven't figured out a cure all fix yet. I try to nurse in a quiet darker place and I take lots of relaxing deep breaths. If worse comes to worse I pump until let down and then latch him on, but I really try not to do that. Good luck, over time it really does seem to get better.
