Babies on the Brain

Wow. Really dad?

Day 1 of vacation with my parents - my dad gives E ice cream off of his spoon.

Seriously?

Apparently it's going to be a long 7 days.

  • Is that bad? I need to start a binder or something.
July 20th, 2012: Never forget the day the fb douchebags tried so hard, but ultimately failed. Viva la October 2011! Yeah, I called you douchebags.

  • I could just be anal but I don't really want to have my 6mo trying ice cream just yet.  He's just starting eating solids and letting it slide will lead to a snowball effect (between my family and my ILs it would be bad).

I think the part that makes it the worst is that my dad KNOWS I didn't want him to have ice cream, I told him not to an hour later when he was joking about doing it and then turned around and did it anyway.

Too much sugar, fat, and the milk in it isn't good until they're at least 12-months.

Batman likes to watch cartoons on the weekends. Whatever.

  • I would have a bigger issue with the fact that you specifically said not to. I am positive I will have this battle with my parents/IL's.

  • I feel your pain.  On Memorial Day, my FIL decided it would be a good idea to rinse off LO's paci after it fell on the ground.  By dipping it in his iced tea. Genius, I tell you. Luckily, DH made sure to let him know in no uncertain terms that this is unacceptable. Grrr.

  • Oh that's frustrating.  I go back to work on Wednesday and I just had a long conversation with my mom (she'll be watching him) last week about only feeding the baby BM or formula until I say so.

  • Ugh. My mom was good about not giving him food (that we didn't ok) before he was a year old but now it is a constant struggle. Last weekend, after having been asked multiple times to not offer Jake lemonade (we don't do anything but milk and water yet) she gives him a sip while I was inside and she thought I wasn't watching. When I walked outside and took him from her she said "I was just sneaking a little sip in." It ticked me off because that statement told me she KNEW we she wasn't supposed to do it.

  • Ugh, that sucks. I wish they'd respect your ground rules. You have very legit concerns.

I fear this when we have kids. My husbands parents took their monthly pictures with beer cans to show how much he grew. I can only imagine what they'll do with our kids.

  • Pretty sure MIL did that with DD around the same time, too.  She's also the one that gave her Mt. Dew at about 9 months.  But according to MIL, it was just a taste so it's okay.  I wonder how my husband survived his childhood some days.

My dad does this EVERY time we see him. It got to the point where I told him that he wouldnt get to see DS or DD until he could learn to respect our rules. I stuck to it and only allowed my step mom over to the house to visit and didnt go over to their house until my dad promised to be good.

I would just put your foot down and let them know now that its not ok to do stuff like that. GL!!!

  • I've talked to my mom about all the stories I read on the bump about IL's or parents giving grand babies inappropriate food & drinks.  I can't believe that an adult would give a baby candy, soda, or water.

My mom watches E one day a week, and I've told her we will be providing all the food & drinks.
