Endocrinologist reco?

Does anyone here see an Endocrinologist? Not a RE, just an Endocrin specialist. I have a good friend who was recently diagnosed with PCOS and she went to IRH but she's not looking to have children right now so that isn't her focus. I know there were quite a few ladies on the IF board who saw both their RE and the endocrinologist at the same time while cycling and I think she may need to see someone alongside IRH who will look more in to what she's dealing with and less focus on the reproductive side.

Any recos?

  • I see Dr. Bajaj. I believe that she specializes in diabetes and thyroid conditions (I'm not sure if that matters to your friend).

  • There are 4 female endo's on Red Bank that are awesome!  Dr. Denney, Dr. Ali, Dr. Miller and Dr. Iyer.  Dr. Ali is about to go on maternity leave, but they all are great.
  • Thanks ladies! I will pass the info along.

  • Just a general note ~ When I was first diagnosed with PCOS, both my primary care physician and my OB/GYN at the time referred me to an endocrinologist - the same endocrinologist - (not an RE), and when I went for my first appointment, the endocrinologist was (much) less than thrilled that I had been sent to her and not to an RE. Apparently some endocrinologists "believe" in PCOS, and some do not. Some think it is in their territory, and some do not. She did not believe in it, and she wasn't interested in it. She did help me somewhat with the insulin resistance piece, but she was very condescending. I felt like an a**. Anyway, I would recommend that when your friend schedules her appointment, she asks whether the office is familar with and treats PCOS :). Might save her a bit of a headache. HTH!

  • I LOVE my endocrinologist. He's amazing and spends a ton of time explaining everything and is completely thorough.  His name is Dr. Michael Canos and he's in NKY.
