GD and salad dressing

Yes...another GD question.
My dietician told me not to stress over salad dressing (as least that's what I remember her saying!) I feel like i took in so much info, I could totally have misunderstood her here.
We're going out to dinner and i'm craving a salad with Ranch dressing.  Doesn't the ranch have carbs though?
What do you do when it comes to Salad dressings?

  • In my book gave to me by the dietician - salad dressing (fat free, low fat, and cream based) count as 1 carb for 3 tablespoons.

  • My nutritionist said not to stress over salad dressing as long as I keep it on the side and dip my fork in it before getting the bite of salad.  But, I still stick with the vinagrettes because there are less carbs in these than the creamy dressings.
  • Most ranches have 1-2 grams of carbs per 1-2 TBSP. With both pregnancies I've been told not to worry about the carbs in the dressing and to count them as a fat serving, which I'm allowed 1-3 per meal - for dressings that means 1 TBSP=1 fat, so I usually have ranch on my salads.

  • Dressings still have carbs in them, so when I dress my salad I try to do a minimal amount.

  • I was told to ignore the carbs in Ranch dressing because the amount in using it is so minimal.

  • LOL!  I just devoured a salad with Hidden Valley Ranch dressing. It was so friggin good!  The carbs are so minimal, you don't have to worry about it!  And, I was checking the bottles in the store today, lite dressing had 3g carbs and regular had 2g.  Go figure!

  • I think "lite" dressings often have more sugar... So I either opt for oil and vinegar OR creamy....

    I ignore them, unless you are having more than 1/4 of a cup or counting fat, the carbs are so low they don't contribute that much to blood sugar.
