Insurance Question

I have recently switched jobs, and that means different insurance company. We are TTC so I was going to see if any of you had experience the insurance company Aetna............I would appreciate any information on it.

Our plan will be Aetna Choice POS 11.

Thanks so much!

Re: Insurance Question

  • Aetna is generally a good company, I think. My insurance experience has been sort've disastrous but nobody likes a Negative Nancy, LOL. I'm going onto Aetna in September and I don't feel any trepidation about it. I think it is fair to say that some people have remarkably generous insurance, and many of us have "average" insurance. At this point I think any insurance is better than none.

  • i'm on Aetna Open Choice, which I think is the POS one you have as well.

Pretty good, they didn't cover any of the IVF treatments but covered all the ultrasounds I needed (and I needed a lot, while TTC and then I was high risks until week 20 and they covered all the appointments, us, procedures and high risks things I needed. I did have a co-pay each time though)

in terms of delivery, I am covered 100% and just have a co-pay of $100, which is really good. My sister for instance had to pay a % and ended up with a $800 bill for a 3 days stay and a C-section. I am covered for all of that.

  • I had Aetna about 8 years ago for several years.  They were okay.  Even though my plan was worse, I found them easier to deal with than BCBS.  I did have to fight Aetna on several denied claims that they finally paid for.  I've also had United Healthcare and Cigna.  UH was the best, easiest to deal with and the least prone to deny claims.  Cigna was right after them though on that.  Then Aetna, then BCBS.  Humana is the worst.  Thankfully, I haven't had them, but I've had family members have them and have had nightmare experiences.

  • I had Aetna coverage during the time I was pg and gave birth to DS, I thought the coverage was good.  I now have BCBS and they suck, I've spent more money out of pocket so far during this pregnancy than I did for my entire pregnancy, c-section, and 4 day hospital stay w/ DS.

  • For those that have insurance through your employer, it's really the employer that chooses the plan and how much employees pay...not the insurance company.

I would rate insurance companies on their network, claims payment and customer service...rather than your actual plan.

Honestly, I work for one of the largest health insurance companies in the US and my coverage....well, sucks!!!!!!   The network is great and I've never had an issue with claims being denied or with customer service, but I pay a butt load out of pocket.   Not only do I pay a high monthly premium but I have an HSA plan which means high deductibles and paying a % of care rather than copays.  My company used to offer an HMO plan, which I actually preferred.  Stay in network and you basically pay a small copay and everything else is covered.

I think Aetna is a good company, but what you're going to pay out of pocket totally depends on your plan (sorry not familiar with your exact plan).   You may want to call and ask about maternity coverage and you maximum out of pocket.
