Some of you may have read my posts about Marcus having sleep issues...naps and nighttime. He had been going 3.5-4 hours consistently for the first cycle at night then 2.5 hours after that. In the last several weeks, that's gone down to 2 hours at most.
We upped his Prevacid yesterday, but tonight, he woke up 2 hours after his last feeding. (He's been eating every 3 hours during the day). I don't think he's hungry, just wants to nurse back to sleep. I sent my DH upstairs with him to see if he could get him to sleep sans milk. I'm just sitting here listening to him cry.
I said I'd wait 20 minutes to see what happens, but man this sucks.
Either I have the weirdo baby that won't sleep at night or the women on here with the babies sleeping over 5 hours at night are lucky.
Re: Listening to the little guy crying...
your LO may not be ready yet. If eating gets him back to sleep I say do it.
20 mins!?! That seems excessive for this young!
5, sure. 10, ok. Anything after that, I would feed the little guy!
I agree with the pp have you tried eliminating anything out of your diet. It can't hurt...I've eliminated dairy and I think something else is upsetting my LO maybe eggs so I'm going to try cutting them out.
I'm sorry that he's uncomfortable and you have to listen to him cry. I wish I could be of more help.
I never made it to 20 minutes...I couldn't stand it. I ended up nursing him and did on/off all night. I'm trying to eliminate dairy (for the most part) because gas is causing a problem too. He's also getting a probiotic (did this for DS1 too).
I should say that DS1 had reflux as well, but unfortunately he didn't get treated for it until 4 or 5 months. I'm trying to be more vigilant about when Marcus gets the Prevacid (on an empty stomach at the same time) to see if that helps.
It's just frustrating to read all the posts about these sleeping babies!
DS was a horrible sleeper until 12 months and I don't think I got a 5 hour stretch until he was almost 1 from what I remember. It was horrible and I cried a lot!
DD could be a horrible sleeper b/c she will not be swaddled and will not sleep on her back, so we made the decision to have her tummy sleep and she does 6-8 hour stretches. It was a tough decision b/c of the SIDS stuff, but after reading the actual studies and risks I feel ok with it. I think DD has a mild case of reflux too b/c she chokes and spits up if she's on her back, but not on her tummy and she screams in the car.
So yes, I think part of it is luck.
And I would totally do whatever works to keep him happy and sleeping at this point. Maybe try again when he's 4 months since that's when sleep habits typically start to form? If he didn't have other issues it would be a different story, but I would just do whatever I could to keep him happy for now. GL!
