Washington Babies

Camping with a baby

Any advice, items that will make my weekend away easier, items I should leave at home?  D is almost 8 months old, may be crawling by next week.  We are doing Eastern Washington, green grass car camping.

Oh, and what bug spray do you use for a baby?

  • Take some ways to contain the kid safely and cleanly. Pack n play, high chair, stroller or carrier. We just kept her in long sleeves/pants and didn't use bug spray. I think Badger makes one that is chemical free. You are brave to take her crawling! We took DD last year when she didn't move and it was so easy! She laid on a blanket and stared at the trees for hours. Have fun!

  • PnP and travel highchair and stroller and carrier were all the "extras" we needed.  otherwise he ate a version of what we ate and he slept in our sleeping bags.  He had an amazing time.

    Have fun !!

  • I think you'll have fun!  I would take my kids camping at any age/stage.  Definitely a PnP, and for us a play yard is a must (since we have more than 1), lots of wipes, and maybe a net for the PnP if you are worried about bugs.  Then just the other basics like toys.

  • REI makes clothes that repel bugs, we bought a onsie and hat for LO and they worked great.  You might be able to find it in the stores ( Tacoma does not carry them) but you can order it online. ( search buzz off clothes infant clothes and it should get you close).  Also we use one of those chairs that hangs off the table and use it on the picnic table, works great.
