How many pairs of shoes?

How many pairs of shoes is too many since they're feet grow so quickly? Do you have a neutral pair? What color are they?

Re: How many pairs of shoes?

  • I have a boy, and 3 seems plenty for him. He has sandals, sneakers, and a dressier pair of sneakers that can be worn with slacks.

However, if I had a girl, I could totally see having a gajillion pair of shoes in all different colors.

  • A girl can never have too many pairs of shoes right?  My DD currently has 5 pairs (but I do not spend a lot for them).  Her Keens are her favorite and seem to go with pretty much all her summer stuff (we got the light green).  She also has flip flops(red) , jellies (purple), dress shoes (white), and a pair of tennis shoes (LelliKelly pink with beads).

  • DD has a pair of Stride Rite shoes that are her main pair.  They're white with pink soles, but I put them with everything if she's going to be walking.  She also has a pair of brown sandals and a pair of pink waterproof Nike sandals.  Those are the 3 main ones she wears, but she also has a pair of Converse that we got for super cheap, and a pair of cheap Payless shoes.  She doesn't really wear those, though.

I looked high and low for white sneakers last fall and then it became winter and she wore pink boots all the time.  They matched most of her clothes, so I realized that neutral shoes weren't that big of a deal.

  • we have a pair of sneakers, boots, brown shoes and blue ones (MIL bought those)  DH got him a pair of flip flop kinda sandels and he refuses to put his foot in them! lol he still needs swim shoes and sandles so he can wear shoes without socks on the hot days!
  • DS has far too many shoes. He's a big fan of shoes.

He has 6 pairs of tennis shoes, 2 pairs of flip flops, 1 pair of leather sandles, and 2 pairs of crocs.

In my defense, many of them were not purchased new. lol.

  • the good ones are white, she wears them everyday as I think they are the only ones with good support. But also has payless sneakers and jellies, and other 2 pairs that my mom bought and never use.

  • DD has 6 pairs right now. However, she isn't walking yet, so they are still mostly for show. But they are mostly all considered "better" walking shoes, assuming she will soon. She has 2 pairs of Pedipeds and 2 pairs of See Kai Run (all purchased on Gilt or Zullily on sale), a pair of pink Converse tennis shoes, and a cheaper pair of white sandals from Target. They are all too big at this point, but again, since she's not walking it's not a big deal and she'll grow into them.

  • My DS has several pairs of shoes. He has black flip flops, brown flip flops, black dress shoes, brown dress shoes, two pair of tennis shoes, a pair of sperrys, and another casual brown dress/tennis shoe (similar to sperrys)

Who says little boys can't have a variety of shoes just like little girls?! LoL

  • I only buy DDs shoes on sale... But right now she has 2 pairs of Stride Rite sneakers, 2 pairs of See Kai Run shoes, 3 pairs of sandals from Target (1 white, 1 pink, 1 brown... And only because they were buy 1 get one half off), a pair of Target sneakers I got on clearance, and a pair of sandals from Old Navy. Yikes, that's a lot of shoes! Guess she will take after her mama :)

  • DS has two pairs.  He has "Extra-Wide" feet so we have to shop at Stride Rite - at $50 a pop, two pairs is enough!  One pair are a cute-looking brown pair and then he has a pair of sandals.

  • My LO has his Stride Rite walking sandals, Nike Shox, and two pairs of Robeez-like shoes. And he also has a pair of crocs but he has only worn them once.

  • DD has 3 pairs of sandals and 2 pairs of tennis shoes, all of which were gifts.  If it were up to me she'd have 1 pair of sandals for the summer, possibly 1 pair of tennis shoes.  Even with all those options, she only ever wants to wear her keens (which are blue so they pretty much match everything).

  • DS has 2 pairs.  One are stride rite sandals and the other is a pair from wal mart that are just outside shoes while he's playing with his water table etc.

  • Tegan has lots of shoes, mostly hand me downs or gifts. She has 2 pairs of jellies, 2 pairs of sandals, 3 pairs of tennis shoes and a pair of flip flops. They are all from different places/different brands, but I bought her a pair of StrideRites for her everyday daycare shoes. If I had to buy her shoes, she'd have a nice pair of tennis shoes, a good pair of sandals and probably several pairs of cute cheaper shoes.

  • DS has 3 pairs (1 pair of sandals, one plaid cloth loafer with a velcro strap, and a pair of tennis shoes that are white with blue stripes (Adidas)).  MIL got the Adidas for him second hand and the other two pairs are from Target.  I really like their selection because they have cute stuff and it's relatively inexpensive ($10-12).  DS's pediatrician has told us for months now that the purpose of shoes at this age are to protect DS's feet from the elements.  He told us not waste money on Stride Rite shoes or any of the more expensive brands.

DS has been wearing the same size since he started wearing shoes 6-8 months ago.

  • He has white Nikes, black casual shoes, brown casual shoes, a pair of crocs, a pair of sandals, a pair of Converse, and a pair of black dress shoes.

  • Since she grows out of them so fast, I don't like buying a bunch of pairs in one size.  She has a pair of purple Keens which she wears almost every day and that we love.  She also has a pair of silver ballet flats from Target to go with dressier outfits.

  • Grant has two nice pairs of Stride Rite shoes - brown ones he wears most of the time and nice sandals that he wears when we go to the store or for a wagon ride around the neighborhood.

  • DD has one pair (Stride Rite) that she fits into right now:

She also has a pair of pool-type sandals (Target) and a pair of nice pediped sandals, but she doesn't fit into them yet.  I guess I'm in the minority, but I'm ok with her having just one pair.  Although, if she doesn't grow into her sandals soon I'll probably buy her a smaller pair.  Otherwise these are good enough.

Congrats on your little boy BTW!

  • My DD has one pair that she wears everyday(they are light pink so they match almost everything) & some sandals for dressier occasions. Although she can't walk very well in the sandals, so they are just taken off when we there.
  • DD has several - a pair of Stride Rite tennis shoes my mom bought her at a friend's rummage sale (they were barely worn - totally worth the $2 :P). They are a pretty dark pink, but she wears them with any casual outfit and anytime we're playing outside. She also has some brown loafer type shoes to wear with slightly nicer outfits, while mary jane style for church, and since it's been nearing 90 degrees here we finally bought some sandals yesterday - they're pink and nice enough for dressy outfits but casual enough for everything else. If I have to buy her shoes new I head to Target/Kohls/Sears type stores, they usually have pretty good sales and I've never spent more than $12 for a pair of shoes for her.

  • DS has 1 pair of water shoes, 1 pair of cheapie sling back sandals, 1 pair of brown leather Keen velcro strap sandals and 2 pairs of Stride Rite lace up shoes (1 white and 1 beige w/blue and green stripes).  We alternate them around.  It's too hot for socks now though, so mostly he wears the Keen sandals.

  • Liam has a pair of sneakers and a pair of sandals.  The sneakers are really neutral and can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion.  He wore them to a wedding last month with his vest, tie, and slacks.  I think for a girl that 4 pairs of shoes would be the limit for me.

  • DD currently has a ton of hand-me-down shoes. Some don't very fit well though because she has wide feet. She wears a pink pair of waterproof striderites and a white sandle pair of striderites - both that we had her fitted for - a lot. She also has a few pairs of jelly sandles and other sandles that she wears if she wont be walking a ton - like the grocery store and such. I love shoes!

  • We generally have two pairs of shoes in a given size, depending on the season. 1 pair is usually sneakers and the other pair might be dressier in winter, the kind DD can wear for Thanksgiving & Christmas, but not too dressy to wear on a normal basis. That second pair is usually black or brown. In summer, the 2nd pair is always sandals. I let DD pick the color and don't worry too much about matching.

In addition, I always have a pair of boots in winter, rain boots in spring and water shoes in summer, so I guess that's 3 pairs at a time, total.

I like to buy DD quality shoes since we've had some bad experience with lesser-quality shoes falling apart, so that's the big reason I limit how many pairs we have at a time. We walk A LOT in this city, so she really wears shoes out before she has a chance to outgrow them. If we lived in more of a car-culture place, I might spend less on each pair and buy her more for fun.

  • I am not a big shoe person (I wear a size 5 & they're really hard to find so I gave up long ago on having tons of shoes) so I guess that is why my kids don't have many shoes. They each have 3 right now- sneakers, casual sandals & 'dressier' sandals. They go to daycare every day & I pretty much have them in sneakers or casual sandals at all times.  Oh & they both have water shoes for splash pads & whatnot.

Boy sneakers- blue & orange; casual sandals- grey; dressier sandals- brown leather

Girl sneakers- white w/ colored stripes; casual sandals- purple; dressier sandals- white

  • DS probably has about 6 pairs right now, but now that he's going into a size 5 and is a wide/extra wide, I imagine he will only have 2 or 3 pairs in each size from now on...a sneaker and then a sandal or brown dress shoe for the winter. Unless of course I find some stuff at consignment stores, but if I have to buy Stride Rites to get him wides, then he's only going to have a couple :)

I disagree...boys love to splash in water and play in mud and I end up changing his shoes 2 or 3 times a day so DS has 5 pairs of running/hiking shoes, 1 pair of Keens and 1 pair of rubber boots.

Thanks! DD has only 3 pairs of shoes that I rotate depending on the outfit. I would love to buy more but I don't think it's gonna be worth it. I'm in the minority too!
