What career / job do you have now?
If you could do anything at all, what would it be?
I am currently a licensed social worker.
If I could do or be anything it would be to be independently wealthy and stay at home, doing all volunteer work with kids and animals.
OR
I would be a professional wine/food taster or forensic scientist (like in CSI) LOL
Re: GTKY question about "what you could be..."
I am an RN, I work in administration/education.
If I could be anything, I would be Samantha Brown (the chick on the Travel Channel who gets to stay in fabulous hotels and eat at amazing restaurants) or I'd be playing Elphaba in Wicked.
Yeah, I was hoping to be independently wealthy too, but I lost this weeks Powerball!
I am a dental hygienist and I like my job, but I wish I could work at a zoo once and while and work on animals. (Don't laugh they are living longer and need cleanings) I would also like to do research eventually!
If it wasn't hygiene, then having my own coffee/bake shop would be fun to me. Or becoming an instructor for a Turbo Kickboxing class.
I work in Sales Support at a Marketing firm (I have worked in this company for 15 years and moved around a lot)
If I could do anything I would like to make cakes. In HS I worked in Bakeries and loved it. I still really enjoy making my son cakes and he makes it so challenging. He just pulls something out of the air and says I want this for my Bday theme and then I do my best to make it happen it would be so fun to do this everyday.
I work as a cost accountant for a food management company.
I've always wanted to be a pilot but never wanted to pay for the schooling. I'd love to have my own plane and just be able to fly wherever you want. Although now that I'm pregnant, I'd love to be a SAHM. I wish I could afford too. Maybe in a few years!
good question!
I went to school for Social Work, i now do home care.
If i could do it all over though i would have went to school for nursing.
My dream job would be an awesome cake decorator!
I am currently a first grade teacher.
If I could pick anything, I would be a chef on the Food Network. I love to cook and being a famous chef would be fun!
Currently, I'm an inventory control analyst for an after-market auto parts manufacturer.
When I was younger, my original major in school was nuclear engineering. I wanted to invent a cost-efficient cold fusion reactor, win the Nobel Prize, and retire. Didn't happen...LOL.
My current career aspiration is "Powerball Winner Extraordinaire". Lots of travel after that!
What career / job do you have now?
-I work in a surgeon's office. I do a little bit of everything; schedule appointments, billing, charging, medical records, check in patients...I'm kinda the jack of all trades.
If you could do anything at all, what would it be?
-I would go to cosmetology school and open a salon.
I am an RN in critical care
I would stay in nursing, but as an NP in education. I am not exactly sure what population I would like to work with, but I do think I would enjoy teaching clinicals to undergraduate nursing students.
DS born via unplanned C-section at 40w6d
Isn't this the truth! I am feeling burnt out by nursing and am happy for a break due to our move. BUT, I think if I wasn't running around crazy all day, had patients/families that were maybe nicer, etc. then I think I would be happier.

What career / job do you have now?
I have my bachelor's and master's degrees in Social Work...I'm a licensed Social Worker.
I quit my last job in April because it was terrible and a horrible/unhealthy work environment, especially when pregnant. Instead of getting another full time job I'm now babysitting for an agency in town. I choose my hours/days/etc. It works great! The pay isn't that much less, and I don't have to worry about time off (among other things).
If you could do anything at all, what would it be?
There are a LOT of things! Something with animals, baking wedding cakes, traveling the world....and to be independently wealthy and to never have to worry about money.
What career / job do you have now? I am currently a freelance restaurant/food writer
If you could do anything at all, what would it be? I'm pretty sure I'd stick with this, although who knows what the future holds. I was an Economist for all of my adult life until I quit a year ago to concentrate on writing. I'm much happier with this arrangement!
I am a chemical plant operator with a 4 year animal science degree.
If I could do anything, I'd be a stay at home mom or work part time at a coffee shop.
I currently work as a box boy in a grocery store.
My realistic dream is to be a stay at home mom until all my kids were in school and then be a pre-school teacher. Hopefully that will happen someday but most likely with this first one I will have to go back to work after s/he is born.
My unrealistic dream would to be a famous country singer.
I am currently a SAHW
Realistic Dream I one day want to be a children's PTA
Unrealistic Dream: Some of you have already said it but independently wealthy but no one knows. I don't ever wanna be famous.
What career / job do you have now?
If you could do anything at all, what would it be?
I'm a 6th grade special education teacher. I love my job and I'm very happy at my school, but my realistic dream job would be to be at the same school in the same grade level but with far more parental support and more time to assess and plan for my students' needs, or even with my yearly raise that I haven't seen in the past three years. Given the economy, that isn't possible and I get that, but it would be nice to be paid for staying past 5 each day when my hours end at 3.
If I could do anything at all, I'd be an astronaut or work for the State department overseas, neither of which is very conducive to being pregnant or raising small children. I think I need a new fantasy job.
me too!! I always watch that show and wonder how she was so lucky to get that job.
I'm an Internal Medicine doctor but my other dream job would be to open a vineyard. Or be Powerball winner extraordinaire.
I am a retail manager right now at a childrens store and I love my job.
Growing up my career aspiration was to be a "mommy" and I still feel the same. Once we get used to having a baby I will do before school/ after school child care and watch a couple kids during the day. And I will bake cupcakes to bring in some more money.
Thank goodness DH is so supportive of my wishes and is helping make them come true!
Awesome! Good for you! Where does your inspiration for children's books come from? Any sample titles? I'm so curious
As for me, I would love to do musical theater. Haven't done it since high school (only 7 years ago) but I miss it SOOO badly. I'm always talking about auditioning for local musicals, but I never do it...chicken...lol. I also want to learn piano and do spontaneous prophetic worship with voice. That would be so cool.
RIght now, I work part time with elderly men and women in their homes helping out with housework, etc, and I'm also working on publishing my first book, which seriously is SO awesome! I wouldn't change that part!!
I am a director of operations for a hedge fund.
If I could be/do anything, I'd buy a house with a good amount of land and open a nonprofit dog rescue focusing on medium to extra large dogs. I would also like to own a cafe with a cute patio area where I would sell awesome coffee, fresh baked bread, pastries, gourmet sammies and doggie treats. It would cater mainly to dog-loving humans. Dogs would be treated just as well as their human owners. I will probably do something along these lines when our kid(s) is/are grown and having awesome healthcare and a good salary aren't as much an issue.
I'm currently a project manager for an applied linguistics company. I manage language-related projects for the government, and sometimes for private companies. I actually really like it -- I get to travel some (mostly just to DC and back, but that's okay), and I get to work with people from all over the world.
But...
What I want to do more than anything is become a published author of books for teenagers. About 6 years ago, I did some contract work for one of the big children's / teen publishing companies, and I fell in love with children's and YA lit. I've been writing nearly all my life, but it finally clicked with me that YA was my writing home. I'm working hard to get one of my manuscripts sent out within the next few months. If you're curious, I don't write the paranormal or fantasy stuff (though I do like to read it!), but rather contemporary / realistic, usually with some mystery elements, too.
I am a Communications Coordinator.
I would be a high school teacher, that way I would get all the holidays and summer off
I currently work in marketing for a car dealership.
If I could do anything I would either be a SAHM or open a dog rescue.
