Just curious what others are planning on doing for BC after baby. My NP asked me about this at my last appointment and I hadn't really given it much thought. Last time I went on the mini pill because I was BFing. My NP was talking up IUDs.
We are done after this so I am getting a tubal during my c/s

I am going back & forth between IUD & mini-pill, but I will probably end up doing the mini-pill. I was on the mini-pill before getting pregnant and the only downside that I found was not knowing when to expect a period.
This is something i never thought of.. i def will be asking my Familiy Doctor @ 6 week checkup.
Because i will be BF too. I would never have something in me like an IUD
I breastfed for 11 months with an IUD, no problem. You can get the Paragard IUD which lasts for up to 10 years and has NO hormones. My milk supply was fine with the IUD.
I was going to go with an IUD because they're quite safe now and I have really terrible emotional reactions to all levels of BC pills (I've tried tons). I have PCOS so I may even just go au naturale since it took almost a year to get pregnant taking nothing...

Mirena was the best birth control that I ever found. I've been on virtually every pill I can think of. Mini-pill is too scary, if you miss it or if you don't take it at the exact same time every day your chances of getting preggo are higher. But you can breastfeed with Mirena and you don't get pregnant and my periods get shorter and lighter.
My NP actually brought this up this morning in my appointment too. She didn't recommend the IUD for me since my husband and I would like to have a second child in about 2 years. We talked about the mini pill or there was a rod under the arm option that she mentioned. I don't know the name of it, but she made it sound pretty good. They happened to be all out of the pamphlet on it, but she said she would have some for me for my next appointment. Has anyone else heard of this or used it before?
H is getting a vasectomy next year after I heal and baby starts to sleep better.
I have had friends who have had bad experiences with their IUD and will never get one! I tried the minipill after DD2 but I was breastfeeding and it drastically reduced my milk supply. My OB told me it shouldn't, but everyone I know who has taken it while breastfeeding has had supply issues because of it.

I'm pretty sure that we are done having children after DD arrives. However, we are still very young and if all goes smoothly in the direction it's currently heading, DH will be long finished with his MBA and Six Sigma training and should be making over twice what he makes now in 5 years (the maximum length mirena can be left in). I just can't say that we won't want to give having more children another thought at that time. I'm not ready to make any final decisions (vasectomy, ect.) but I really don't ever want to be on the pill again.
I have never had an IUD, but I've heard very mixed reviews about them. It sounds good, but I'm afraid b/c my body is very sensitive.
DH and I are leaning towards the mini-pill. I know it will be a pain to have to take a pill at the same time every day, but I want to feel in control of what is going into my body and be able to change it if there are adverse effects (in which case, we would use condoms and charting).
We are going to chart and use condoms. I am planning on BF'ing and we would like to ttc around our LO's 1st birthday next year and I had a really hard time going off the pill when we were ttc this time. Plus, my DH and I didn't realize the whole effect the BC had on my sex drive until I was off it a couple of months, it really shocked me how much better my drive was after I stopped the pill.

Us too (except the TTC part, haven't talked about that yet!). BC totally messed with me too, not just with sex drive but other emotions as well (they were blunted, I am much more "myself" now).

I got pregnant when DS was around 17 months old....I was still nursing him at the time. We used condoms the whole time. It sort of sucked, but I didn't want to do the mini pill or get an IUD b/c we knew we wanted another kid pretty quickly. We want a 3rd most likely in about the same time frame (or even sooner) so we'll do the same this time around.
I would say chart to avoid, but I didn't get a period back with DS for about 14 months b/c he nursed so much. If I get my periods back sooner we may chart to avoid as well/instead of the condoms.
While I would love too have a tubal, I don't see that happening. I'll probably end up using Depo again until I can get an IUD. My doctor's office doesn't insert them so I'd have to go to Planed Parenthood.

I had the Mirena IUD for 4 years. I breastfed DD for 2 1/2 years of that. I had no supply issues.
I honestly havent thought too much of it yet. I will ask my OB at my 6wk PP appt. Dont think I wanna go back on BCP, we would like to try again aprox 9 mos after this LO so I don't want all the hormones . So maybe condoms/charting?
After I had DD I went on the mini pill b/c I was nursing. This one I will probably do the same. DH has talked about getting a vasectomy but I'm not sure yet. I am definitely going to be on some sort of bc because as of now we are done. I'm just not sure I want DH to do something so drastic right away.

I can't think of the name of it either, but my sister has the under the skin in arm "rod" and she really likes. She says she only gets periods 4 times a year. They aren't any different from when she used to get them monthly, they just come less. She said the worst part is getting it out, when it needs to be changed. I think they last 3 years before they have to be changed out.

I'm not really sure what I'm going to go on. NOT the pill I've decided. I found out this pregnancy that I have a blood clotting disorder and I need to be on something that doesn't have a risk of blood clots. Right now I'm not sure what my options are. The other thing is I am having a mastectomy done when this baby is about 5-6 months old for breast cancer prevention b/c I have the breast/ovarian cancer gene and I am supposed to avoid estrogen. I'm thinking a tubal or H getting fixed is the best option for us but I'm still undecided and as of now a c-section is not planned.

The most common one under the arm that I know of is Implanon. From what I have heard, I would still go with an IUD over the implant. You will have a scar from Implanon, and the IUD can come out whenever you are ready to get pregnant again.

I got the Implanon 8 weeks PP and it seems to be okay so far. It lasts for 3 years and can be taken out whenever you want to TTC again. It didn't hurt to get put in and I hardly notice it now. The insertion site is still healing so I don't know if I will have a scar or not but its in a place that no one would be able to see it anyway.

IUD for me. I'm not certain this is our last yet. I tried the mini-pill the first time and hated it. Sleep deprivation does not help when trying to remember to take a pill at the exact same time every day and I just worried about it too much We ended up just using condoms and it wasn't that great. I didn't notice any effect on my milk supply, but I have heard others say this.

It is called the Implanon. I was thinking about asking about that one once my baby is born. They say it's good because it doesn't have any estrogen, which is good for breastfeeding. The only downside that I have heard, and it has been mixed reviews, is that it makes your period irregular. I think it is def. worth researching.

I had an IUD inserted at my 6week pp appointment. It was seemless and nearly painless too.
Happy with my choice.
