I've swaddled my DD since she was 3 wks old. She is a little mover and she loves to be snuggled when she's sleeping. Lately she's been wiggling her arms out of the swaddle and cramming them into her mouth. This of course wakes her up. I really don't think she's ready to be unswaddled, but I'm unsure. Yesterday she fell asleep on the couch so I carried her to her room, swaddled her from the chest down (arms out) and she slept for about 25 minutes. Occasionally she will fall asleep while playing on her playmat and snooze for 30-40 minutes. But, if I ever try to put her down unswaddled it does not work. This morning I tried to put her down with her arms out of the swaddle and it was not successful. She was fussing and kicking her legs. I tried putting her pacifier back in her mouth and standing there calming her down but she clearly was not going to go to sleep. So, I swaddled her with her arms in and held her for 2 mins and she was totally ready to go to sleep. I laid her down drowsy and she hasn't made a peep.
Is anyone else having a similar dilemma? At this point I feel like I need to keep swaddling her and just dealing with her waking up earlier than she used to. I don't see how anyone in our house will get any sleep if I try to get rid of the swaddle. Thoughts? Suggestions?
