September 2011 Moms

"are you sure you aren't having twins? or triplets?"

I get asked this question WAY too often.  I normally smile and say "nope, just one", but I'm having a really ugly day. I feel huge and my hair and makeup aren't looking too good.

A male co-worker stopped me in the hall today.  I'm not even sure if he knows my name and he asked me when I'm due. I said September and he about fell over.  "September??????  And you already look like that? Are you sure it's not twins or even triplets?"  This was too much so I turned and said "yes, only one. I realize I look like a house right now, but it's only one" and walked away.  I heard him mutter to someone nearby "I guess that wasn't very couth of me to say".  Ha. Maybe I taught him a lesson for the next pregnant girl he crosses paths with.

Has anyone else finally snapped or am I the only nutjob?

  • Oh ridiculous.

Lemme tell ya: after being told I look like I'm carrying high, carrying low, carrying big, carrying small, carrying round, carrying funny, look like I'm having a girl, look like I'm having a boy, look like I'm going to pop, look like I'm not even pregnant, I've come to a very important conclusion.

98% of people know jackshiit about what pregnancy looks like and 100% don't know what your pregnancy is "supposed" to look like.

I haven't snapped yet, but I'm just looking for an excuse.

ZOMG!!  THIS!!!!!  People know nothing!  Seriously.  When I look at the HDBD pics I feel like I'm about average but every person I encounter seems to think I'm going to pop any day now.

I haven't snapped yet, but I'm getting really really close.  I know I shouldn't let comments get to me but they do.  They're hurtful and rude and I'm SO sick of them.

bumping from my phone. please pardon any typos and missing punctuation
  • Ugh what is WITH people!!! I was just asked this afternoon by some jackhole if I was having twins too. It took everything not to burst out in tears.

  • I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one getting reactions about how "big" I'm getting already! I don't think I look much different then the rest of you ladies on HDBD, but people get kind of wide eyed when I say I'm due in September.  I do think I'm a *little* on the bigger side, but WTF!  I actually had a hormonal moment last night and cried to DH about a comment my boss made yesterday.  I need to just breathe and let it go - it's obvious people are clueless and really have NO idea that pregnant women grow at different rates, can be all different sizes, and don't like hearing that we're "huge!" Confused

  • What a tool.  And you look great, BTW!

I think you saw this on my FB but last weekend at the mall some woman was all "you're due in September?  Well my daughter is due in August and you're really big."  I said, "actually, I've only gained 5 pounds" (lie!) but she just kept on going.  After she walked off, I muttered "hateful old b****" loud enough so that everyone else but her could hear it.  It felt good.  Big Smile

  • I'm glad I've learned some pregnant woman etiquette here, lol. Things like this wouldn't really bother me personally.

I'm out of town and had to get a new hairdresser for the time being, it was my first time seeing her today and she just so happened to be pregnant, skinny with a BIG ol' bump. Much more pronounced than mine. When she told me she is due in November I almost let my mouth drop and the words I wanted to so badly say was "OMG you are HUGE".

Thank goodness for the manors I've learned here. If someone said that to me I wouldn't be offended and I tend to think other people would feel the same, however that's not the case.

  • I think ANY comment about the way you look or carry is just rude! I've been told that I hardly look pregnant and am small, etc. and it's just as annoying! Just the other day the neighbor tells me "Are you SURE you're having a girl? You're SO small!" and grabs her husband and points at me. I smiled and said, "Well according to my MW and my anatomy scan, it IS a girl." UGH! Some people!

  • LOL you ladies crack me up.  Trust me - as one who knows - you do not look like you are having twins.  Men are stupid and he was probably just trying to get a rise out of you.

  • Right before my reveal u/s I had a bunch of people ask - what if it's twins?  People like, my grandma!  Um, Gram, you've already seen ultrasound pictures from my 2 prvious u/s ... you saw there was only one in there!  Duh.

The people who ask me aren't commenting on my size, they just think maybe I spontaneously grew a 2nd baby in there and how weird would that be to get that surprise??  Um, not possible idiots!

  • I had someone tell me how big I was for only being this far along and ask about twins this week too. And it was a woman who has had children (granted, awhile ago, but still). People seem to have no clue how big a pregnant woman should be.

I look at the Hump Day posts, and feel I look like pretty much everyone else. And I've looked at multiple sources that show the baby's progress within you that show you as well, and I swear I look dead on those examples. I'm pretty sure they are using them as examples because that's the way most of us look.

So, if we all pretty much look the same and look like the examples, I'd say we're all pretty normal... physically at least.
