1st Trimester

m/s tip!

So I went to my first offical prenatal apppointment last Tuesday. I've personally been having pretty bad m/s.

She offered me Zofran. It doesn't take all of the m/s away, but definitely helps me feel somewhat better so I can get to work on time and function.

She also gave me a couple of other tips...1)she said to try to eat every 20 minutes...nothing huge, but cheese/crackers, fruit, something. 2)take crushed ice and drizzle Coke or Dr. Pepper and to sip it. She said dont use a straw though as that can make things feel worse. oh and 3)the more lack of sleep, the worse m/s will be.

I've been trying the crushed ice and soda thing and I'm not sure if its helping bc I'm treating myself to a pop or if it really works. She said that the sugar and the caffiene is what curbs it.

Re: m/s tip!

  • Funny, I am waiting for a call back from my doctor as I type regading M/S and what on earth I can do to help it. I feel like I have tried all of the run of the mill things...the nurse mentioned regular coke..I was surprised to hear that!  I am sort of hoping they give me a prescription for Zofran. We'll see.

  • Thanks for sharing! I find that munching through out the day helps. It's usually crackers for me and I also sip on gingerale.
  • Thnx! Zofran helps a little, but I still feel sick on and off in the afternoon. I'm going to try the coke and ice now!

  • I definitely see a relation with sleep. I feel better when I have had more sleep the night before.  I have also started taking Mommy's Bliss (Morning Sickness Comfort) found at Whole Foods that is a combo of B6, Ginger, and Folic Acid 4 times a day. I think it is helping.  It's hard to eat every 20 minutes when you feel so nauseous.

  • If you go to your pharmacy, they sell "cola syrup" which I guess is more concentrated and is sold for nausea. I put that over ice and it helps. My pharmacy keeps it behind the counter.
  • great ideas! thanks for sharing -- def jotting those down! i had a ginger ale in my travel mug this morning instead of my regular pineapple/OJ and it was amazing. I felt so much better!

  • A couple weeks ago someone posted a link to an article on a way to get rid of your m/s... It said to eat 1/4 cup of beans when your not feeling well and that'll help with the nauseated feelings.

I decided to try it and have been eating a can of green beans a day with popping a few in my mouth when I start to feel my m/s kicking in. So far its worked and I seem to be eating less and less. Also, The beans help if your constipated from the slower digestion your baby has given you, so a win win situation! Hoping this will help you ladies a little
