So I take DD in for a regular check-up/cleaning ... She did very well with the cleaning and I thought we were done. Boy was I wrong.
When the dentist counted and inspected her teeth, she noted that the 2 center bottom teeth looked worn (they've looked the same way since they came in when she was 2 days old) I explained that to her. Then she noticed what looked like a teeny little bubble on her gums beneath one of them and said there was an infection. Then she told me, to treat the infection, she wanted to pull the tooth.
I started crying. But I was okay with the idea of the pulling the tooth(and the adjacent) because when I'd taken DD to a pediatric dentist @ 3 weeks old, he said it was not necessary to pull the teeth at that time, but it might be necessary in the future. Needless to say, I didn't like the idea of pulling teeth out of my newborn. Pulling them out of my 3 year old was not a fun time either.
So they numb her and a then give her a shot.... we wait. When the dentist comes back she informs me that she thinks giving a "baby root canal" would be a better option. At this point, I was feeling very overwhelmed. I asked her if she'd even done that on someone so young. She said, "No, he was 5."
I started crying again. ( I know..I'm a big baby) Ultimately, I decided to have the teeth pulled. Another friend of mine has a daughter who was also born with teeth, but they were pulled at 3 days old. So I went with what I knew and what I thought would be easier for Angie.
All done and DD has the cutest little lisp right now. And may I just AW her by saying, she cried a teeny bit when getting the shot and a little more when they wiggled those little teeth out. And she cried a whole bunch after wards. But I think she did pretty damn good overall. I am so proud of her
Damn, this was long. If you read the whole thing, Thank you.
Re: DD had 2 teeth pulled @ dentist today :(
Oh poor mama and poor Angie. I think it's great that she was such a trouper in the moment and held it all together when it needed to be done and then allowed herself to fall apart with you afterward, while I'm sure that was no fun for mama it sure does show what a good job you've done creating her own inner strength.
Andrew has some cavites and was supposed to have the baby root canal done, I cancelled the appointment because I wanted to have more time to think about just having him put out and I need to get on it and make a decision before they have to pull his. He's not the kind of kid to take well to it
.
I hope you both bounce back tomorrow and have a great day.
Aww poor Angie. I'm sorry. Huge hugs to you, that must have been so hard!
Poor Angie and poor mama! I'm glad that it's over for both of you and that she did so well with the whole procedure. I hope you had some good snuggle time to make you both feel better afterward.
Now, we need to see some pictures with that cute toothless grin!
She's doing great today. The purple scab healing area freaked me out this morning. My mom said it looked normal for missing teeth. DD's only problem now is not understanding that she cant eat certain foods at the moment or suck through a straw. But otherwise, she's doing fine.
She was very upset that the Toothfairy took her teeth. LMAO.
