High-Risk Pregnancy

Enlarged Yolk Sac

So I went yesterday for my first U/S I was supposed to be 8 weeks and 5 days well when they looked she said I was 6 weeks 6 days which she said sometimes the days could be off but then as she looked i could tell something was wrong she then turned the screen and told me I have a large yolk sac then she wanted to schedule me an app. to see a different doctor so this morning I went to this other doctor and he told me the same thing also informing me that there wasnt a heartbeat and with the large yolk sac usually that means a miscarriage will happen at some point but it could go either way I was so upset but he scheduled for me to come back in a week to see if maybe the baby was just too small to see the heartbeat. So I was wondering if anyone out there has been through this and can give me any info about what happen to them..

Re: Enlarged Yolk Sac

  • I have been in your shoes!  I first went and they couldn't find a heart beat and there was just a sac. I went back a week later, there was a sac and a tiny spec....a tiny spec with a heart beat of 93.  The doctor told it that was too low and to not really tell anyone about the baby it probably wouldn't be a viable pregnancy. ...Well, that "not viable pregnancy" is sound asleep right beside of me at  this moment!

Doctors do not know everything, I've learned that the hard way through that pregnancy! Best wishes to you, keep a positive attitude I know it's not easy to do so but trust me...stress can do bad things to your body, don't let your doctors comment ruin this special time for you!!!!

  •  My second pregnancy was the same thing as you are dealing with now. I was actually told that I was having a miscarriage. I just had a small amount of spotting so I went in to get checked. I told that doctor off three weeks later when I went in again and there was a heartbeat. I am hoping for the best for you!

At 6 weeks, all you see is a yolk sac.  I had an ultrasound done to confirm my pregnancy at planned parenthood (I hadn't received my insurance card yet) which was around 6 weeks -- and then when I had my first real prenatal appointment with my midwife, it was around 9 weeks and by then it was a little jellybean thing with a heart beating.  We could see it beating but not hear it.  Since then, everything's been fine with my daughter.
