Do you buy something you have never used or your family doesn't eat just because you have a coupon? I have seen a mass of FB updates about people buying bottles of detergent they have never used etc... I have tried couponing in the past but its very hard to get coupons for the things we eat like fresh produce and gluten-free breads and products etc... I still use the coupons Meijers prints off at the checkout but other than Ziploc products and things like that coupons are limited for us. For moms who deal with food allergies how do you limit the grocery bill when the things you need to get are almost never on a coupon?

Re: Question for couponers
If its a good deal and its something we need/use but not necessarily the brand, I am not brand loyal. I don't care what kind of soap, toothpaste, toilet paper, plastic baggies, etc we use if they do the job they are supposed to. There are some brands we just don't care for for taste/texture reasons.
But, you are right, there aren't a lot of coupons for produce and organic/specialty items.

I am an avid couponer (I mean I run a money saving website!). Before coupons my husband and I would shop for what we wanted and didn't care about price. Then I lost my job, bought a house, had a baby and needed to find a way to supplement income and fast!
That's when I turned to coupons. We never bought generic and didn't plan on it. Instead I shopped smarter, keep my eyes open and take my coupon binder with me into every store. You just never know what you'll find!
For the most part I have a pretty good stockpile (no means extreme!) and we've been living off since I've been so sick for the past 3 months. In a typical week I save my family $116 at the grocery store. I spend about $75 a week ($25 per person). This includes purchasing diapers/pullups, meat, fresh produce, healthy snacks and so forth.
By using coupons and combining it with a sale, I'm also able to purchase items that we wouldn't otherwise buy which has lead us into healthier eating and liking products like Fiber One bars/cereals, organic lemonade, etc. For instance, I wanted to try the Philadelphia Cooking Creme and wouldn't pay $2.50 for the small tub. But, they've been offering great coupons and I scored them for $.50 or less by using a coupon. Now I found out a few of the flavors we don't like and won't purchase them again so I just saved myself $2 on each flavor.
If you want coupons for organic, produce, etc. email the companies, let them know the love of the produce and ask if they could send you coupons. You'd be surprised how easy it is to get coupons for such items. I also suggest purchasing in season produce now and freezing what you can. I can go on and on but I'll stop here!
I have seen list of organic coupons that can be used. You may have to search a few different blogs,

To answer your question, I have gotten over buying things just because i have a coupon (took me a few months of couponing), However, if I can get it free or extremely cheap, I will still buy it and then donate to the food bank or women's shelter. I donated a large box last month for the USPS Stamp Out Hunger drive and I always take things to my church as well.

I'm not loyal to brands at all. If I have a great coupon for Crest toothpaste but I've never used that kind, I buy it anyway, because toothpaste is toothpaste and we'll use it anyway.
I have found that it is difficult to get coupons for produce and meat, but they are around. For instance, we love maple sausage links for breakfast, and there are always Bob Evans or Johnsonville coupons for that. If you are in the produce section and you see those recipe cards, they often have coupons on the cards or in the free "recipe booklets" that are by that kind of produce, like for tomatoes or even oranges.
Thank You for this and the information and suggestions ladies. I will report back in a couple of weeks as to where I get
I am also pretty brand loyal, so I try to stock up whenever there is a good sale. I do most of my couponing for beauty/personal items/cleaning supplies at CVS or Rite Aide.
We also purchase a lot of produce and organic products, which there are rarely coupons for... I do most of my produce shopping at Kroger's so I can at least get the fuel points. I also stock up when they have the big sales there, like for pasta or Annie's Mac or the Nature's (whatever it's called) cereals. With produce, we also stick to what is in season so it's cheaper.
I also buy stuff when it is next to free or cheap and donate it to our church's food pantry.
Found a few more sites to check for natural coupons
