biting and diarrhea

This is not a good day for dd or I. She is currently having diarrhea, the really bad type, and won't eat. On top of that she has decided it is funny to bite people. How does everyone deal with the biting? I thought the terrible twos started closer to two not one!

Re: biting and diarrhea

  • Cooper got into a biting phase that he's finally come out of.   Luckily he really only bit us not other kids.  I have been told not to make a big production out of it saying "OW!!" really loud or anything.  Just calmly say "we don't bite" or "no teeth" or whatever you want to use.  But be consistent and firm.  If you make a big production they think it's fun to get the response.  I will admit to not staying calm all of the time though - sometimes it hurts!  I would also sometimes say "No biting, only kisses" or something like that to redirect his mouth.  Just like with hitting I say "gentle touches"...  They say with dogs that you shouldn't say "don't bark" because all they hear is "bark"... so I guess it could be sort of the same - "don't bite" and all they focus on is "bite".  Not sure but babies sure seem about as smart as dogs sometimes.  ;)   FWIW, Cooper's biting seemed to crop up more when he was teething...
