42 weeks, 2 days, and 19+ hours of labor later (birth story)

The short version:

Milo Isaac was born by c-section at 2:40 a.m. after a failed induction. He was 7 lbs., 8 oz. and 22 inches long.

The long version:

I was scheduled for induction at 41w3d. I really didn't want to be induced because I wanted to labor at home as long as possible. I was also worried about it leading to a c-section because I wasn't dilated at all. My doc let me wait until 42 weeks because my NST and fluid levels all looked good.

I went in on a Sunday night and had 12 hours of cervidal, which did absolutely nothing. I had mild contractions all night but in the morning my cervix was still all closed up, but the baby's head was fully engaged.

At 7 a.m., pitocin was started. Labored all day and was only at 1 cm.  At 5 p.m., I got at epi because the doctor said it might help me relax and dilate, and I could save up some energy for pushing. About an hour later, I was at 3 cm and my water broke.

I was hopeful that this meant labor was going to speed up. There was a spot on my back were the epidural stopped working and the contractions were super painful. There was a shift change and the new nurse wasn't as nearly as helpful and the nurse before. We weren't communicating well at all because I was in a ton of pain and starving, and English wasn't her first language.

At 1 a.m., was still only 3 cm and baby's head wasn't engaged any more, so doc said she thought we needed to do a c-section. At this point my epi had completely worn off, and they didn't give my any more because I was going into surgery. The pain was so bad I couldn't stop throwing up.

The nurse gave me anti-nausea medicine, and I told her, "This is going to make me throw up." She was like, "Haha, yeah, it tastes gross." My DH told her, "No, really, she is going to throw up," and the nurse kind of laughed at him. Sure enough, a minute later, I barfed all over the side of the bed.

My c-section went smoothly. There was some meconium in the amniotic fluid, but the baby didn't inhale any. Wasn't exactly the birth I was hoping for (maybe I jinxed myself by writing a birth plan) -- but in the end I got this little cutie.
