Baby Names

Would one of these middle names work?

Hello!  DH and I both like the name Scarlett but were hoping to use a family name as the baby's middle name.  The 2 names we are considering for middle names are Barbara and Eleanor (I would prefer Barbara but think it is tough to work as a middle name)

Would Scarlett Barbara or Scarlett Eleanor work or do we have to go back to the first name drawing board?  Thanks for opinions!

  • It depends on your last name. But Scarlett Eleanor sounds the best to me. Good luck!

  • I think Scarlett Eleanor flows better just because Scarlett and Barbara both share the "ar" sound.
  • Eleanor flows the best with Scarlett.

  • Definitely Eleanor.  I just can't get behind Barbara and as someone else pointed out, the "ar" sound is too repetitive.

  • Since you're going with family middle names, I imagine that Barbara being your preference is a personal/emotional thing, which is hard to turn away from. I am only thinking about what I would do, and I guess I would keep Barbara, to pay homage to that family member (I think its beautiful) but then I wouldn't choose Scarlett, although it is a beautiful name.

I'd go with a shorter first name (probably still 2 syllables) to blend into Barbara.

  • I think Scarlett Eleanor flows better, even though I'm not a fan of Eleanor. It would depend on your last name, also. Scarlett Barbara doesn't sound horrible, if that what you would love to use. I know a Michelle Barbara, and I don't think that flows well.
