Painting Experts Come In!

I screwed up. We pained the nursery last weekend and the color is waaaaaaaay too bright. Like glow in the dark neon green. I don't know what I was thinking.

I'm planning to buy a lighter color in a slightly different tone of green (less yellow, more blue). Do you think I could just paint right over the brighter color or will I need to prime the walls first?

After painting our LR, kitchen, hallways and half of the nursery I am really ready to be done with this part of the planning process Tongue Tied

  • I'd prime the walls first, at least one coat of primer to tone down the bright shade a little.

  • I know Lowe's sells a paint and primer combo.  I wish we would have known this before DH primed the nursery, but when I went back in to pick up the actual paint they asked me if I wanted paint or paint and primer.  Just an option.  I would definitely use some sort of primer though whether it's just straight primer and paint over top or a paint/primer combo.

  • Home Depot has BEHR paint with primer. It is amazing and DH and I will never use anything else. We have used Valspar paint from Lowes and it was horrible!

  • I second the rec for Behr Paint and Primer. It will cover in 1 coat.

  • If you don't prime you will definitely need 2 coats. Unless it is Valspar, then you will need about 17 coats.

  • I would prime.  It sucks but it will come out better.  I will only use Benjamin Moore paint now.  I haven't tried the Behr paint with the primer.  But I hate their regular paint.  It's thin and we had problems with it leaving drip marks on the wall.  We had actually used Behr in our living room and had to hire painters to do our staircase.  They charged us more for making them use Behr paint.

I think Sherwin Williams is good as well but I've never tried it.

Valspar paint is horrible!  We had some for trim and it keeps clumping and not covering.  Home Depot with the primer in the paint was wonderful.  We used two shades of blue for the nursery and it went on easy.  It was so fast and covered really well.

  • Ahh!  Don't feel too bad about screwing up the paint color.  I have done it 3 times in the last 2 houses.

In our old house, I accidently painted the master bedroom pink instead of tan.  I keep saying it was going to dry more brown but it never did.  We repainted but left the closet the pink color and would laugh everytime we went into the closets.

LOVE the Behr paint... it is Ultra Premium Plus or something like that... you might need two coats for a really bright color but this stuff is AWESOME.  We will not use anything else.
