2nd Trimester

I feel like I'm not getting enough oxygen.

I've felt like this most of the day.  I can breathe in and out just fine, I'm not short of breathe, but for some reason I feel like I'm not getting enough oxygen.  And it doesn't matter if I'm sitting, standing, or moving around.  I know towards the end of the pregnancy it's common to be short of breathe (again, which I'm not), but is this common at around 14 weeks?

Oh, and it's not like OMG I CAN'T BREATHE....it's just a minor annoyance.

  • I feel like that sometimes too.  Especially if I am talking a lot.  It makes me feel winded.

  • I think it's fairly common. I get like this especially when I go out walking with my dog, because he likes to coax me into walking faster than I'd prefer. Another possibility- has your bra band size changed? I know mine bothers me sometimes and as soon as I take it off, I feel immensely better.

  • Sounds normal to me.  Once you get farther along and the baby moves up into your rib cage area, it feels as though your bra is now a rubber band trying to squeeze any oxygen you get out of your lungs.  Another joy of pregnancy.

  • I had to pee at 4:30 this morning and I couldn't get back to sleep for the same time. It felt like I couldn't breathe deeply enough. It took me a long time to relax. I didn't know if it was in my head or just natural shallow-breathing from laying down and trying to relax...

  • It's definitely not from my bra.  I've not been wearing one most of the day so far. Embarrassed  Don't worry though, I haven't left my house braless!  Wink

I wish I had an oxygen tank and little mask thingy!  I don't know if that would necessarily make this strange feeling go away, but that's what I'm "craving" right now!

  • I know the feeling!!! I had it off & on before pregnancy. I just figured that it was from my struggles with iron deficiency. I have it more often while pregnant & I have to take much deeper breaths (more like gasps for air) sometimes.

  • I've been having this same problem since I started showing. I think everything is all squished in there. So it makes it a little harder to breathe.

That's my theory anyway. It's very annoying.

I get this too sometimes.  Usually I notice it on days when my belly is very hard.  Its not really like you can't breath, cause if you try you can take a deep breath, but just breathing normally, something seems off.  I don't have any remedies, hopefully it will pass soon.
  • I have a really hard time breathing at night when in bed.  I lay on my left side and it seems to really help.

  • i had this in my first tri.  felt like i couldn't catch a good, deep breath.  drinking more water, believe it or not, helped a lot.
