Has anyone already had their GBS testing done? Im getting mine done next week (36 week appt) and I was wondering if you test positive for it do they start you on antibiotic therapy then or wait until you go into labor?
Some OBs give prophylactic antibiotics (orally) to start taking at full term, if GBS+, but it hasn't shown to increase effectiveness or treat the GBS effectively.
I am a unique situation as my GBS shows up in my urine (has been happening since I was a teenager). With my first pregnancy every time it showed up the OB put me on a round of oral antibiotics and then I got antibiotics during labor/c-section. This time around I have a much more relaxed OB so despite showing up in my urine he hasn't made me do a round of antibiotics, I will just get them with my c-section. If I were having symptoms along with it showing up in my urine then he would put me on antibiotics.
Re: GBS testing
I will be testing today. So I will find out sometime within he next week whether or not I am positive.
You will not start antibiotic treatment until you go into labor if you are GBS+.
For me, however, I am defering antibiotics unless I have an additional risk factor that would indicate a higher risk of an infection.

This for me.

You get antibiotics through your iv during labor.
