Vent: My boss is really getting under my skin.

Ok, I'll admit my tolerance levels are pretty low lately...but.

My boss is driving me crazy! She seems to think it's ok to say anything that's on her mind related to my pregnant body. Last time it was that I'm going to need to buy maternity pants soon (I'm not; I have a be-band, and that's working perfectly right now, thank you.) Today it was about how I'm going to fit into my dress for my SIL's wedding this weekend.

I don't know why I let her get under my skin. I'm trying to be as gracious as possible, but I wonder if I'm going to blow soon. What would you do?

  • sounds like your boss doesn't have a filter. i'd make sure to put her in her place every time she makes a snarky comment.

"oh your dress wont fit"- "actually it did :) wanna see the picture of me ROCKING it?!" hehe

  • Maybe there's a way you can get her to back off nicely? Maybe on the dress fitting, say yeah, but the whole point of being pregnant is getting bigger! On the pants, just tell her you aren't ready for maternity pants and that you'll get the when time is right. Be nice but short. ( Nice so you don't lose your job, and short so she'll get the hint to back off a little).

  • Haha. Thank you!

I actually told her I needed to order a smaller size (which was true.) She came back HOURS later to tell me she just didn't understand how I fit in it.

    Sigh.

But I realized that I get to decide what I'm going to do with her ridiculous comments. I'm not going to let her taint this experience for me- I think that's what she wants!

Thank you! That is a great idea! I'm trying to be gracious while she seems bent on raining on my parade. You're right, though- and maybe she'll get the hint after awhile.

  • With my first pregnancy my boss LOVED making comments. I finally put a stop to it by letting her know my pregnancy was not an open invitation to discuss my body. In front of others. It stopped there and then.

Repeat everthing she says so she hears it comming out of your mouth Oh it is so nice of you to be concerned that my dress won't fit, I hadn't even thought about it.  That is so not like me, I'm usually I'm pretty on top of things... or hmmm maternity pants, what a great idea, I'll have to keep an eye out for some, thanks for reminding me who knows when I would have gotten around to it...or maybe not.  Your like your job right?

To that, I would reply, "I haven't had much trouble fitting into my clothes yet. Did you get really big during your pregnancy?"

  • Thank you all for your ideas everyone! Some of them really had me laughing and smiling.

I'm aiming to NOT let her under my skin any more- I'll think of some of your responses the next time this happens.
