A friend recently blogged about Priscilla Dunstan's baby language, and I thought it was so fascinating I had to share!
Dunstan
has a photographic memory for sound. So when she had a baby, she
realized that she could differentiate her baby's cries. She thought
that these cries were unique to her baby, but soon realized that babies'
cries are universal because they're based on reflexes. She listens to
the pre-cry sound to figure out what a baby is trying to say. In this
video clip (it's long but worth watching!), she explains the 5 different
cries babies use:
1) "neh" - hunger
2) "owh" - being tired
3) "heh" - discomfort (hot, cold, uncomfortable, diaper)
4) "eair" - lower gas
5) "eh" - burp
Have you ever heard of Dunstan's Baby Language or seen this clip? If you have did you recognize these sounds in your baby?
