DH and I are starting our registry Saturday, and we found the cutest bedding set we both love (we're team green). It's Carter's Laguna... Which brings me to this question, which is potentially really dumb but I've search and can't really find a distinct answer in my baby bargains book or online...
I know bumpers and quilts are a no-no, but do you need a flat sheet to go along with the fitted sheet in the crib? That set we like only comes with the fitted sheet, and it left me wondering.... I'm guessing you don't need it if you swaddle the baby, right? But should we buy flat sheets anyway for down the road? TIA!
Edited: fixed my mis-typing!
Re: Potentially dumb question...Bedding.
We've never used a flat sheet in the crib, we just use one of the 30 million blankets we received at out shower. I didn't even know they made flat sheets for cribs.
And fwiw, we used and still use the bumper.
I've never heard of a flat sheet coming with a bedding set. Maybe it was a typo online?
If you don't plan to use the bumper then I suggest buying everything separate. But we have used our bumper since day 1.
I wanted to avoid the sets too, until we saw this one in the store and just fell in love with it. I've already bought a few piece that go with the set, and then my plan is to throw in some items with different but accenting fabrics so it doesn't look so matchy.
Thanks for the answers... I figured we probably don't need them but just wasn't sure!
I agree with pp, it would probably be best to order the bedding pieces seperately if you are not doing a bumper. We are only ordering the skirt and flat sheet, then buying a mesh breatheable bumper.
Pretty sure there aren't flat sheets for crib bedding. After reading your post again, I think you just made a typo and meant to say they sell the fitted sheet on the website.
Agree that I've never heard of a flat sheet being used in a crib or being included in a crib set. Seems odd.
I'm also another mom that uses the bumper. We put LO in his crib around 5 months and he was rolling around so much at that point that he would get stuck in the crib slats and SCREAM so we put the bumpers back up. My thought was that he was old enough to roll around and avoid danger at that point and he slept much better with them on since he wasn't getting stuck.
The set comes with the fitted sheet, not a flat. Sorry if I mis-typed!
And, we're not certain on the bumper yet. I like it and want to have one in case we decide to use it... I just added that in my original post because I know that a lot of people say not to use them (and quilts) due to the suffocation risk, but wasn't sure if the same rule applied to a flat sheet or what.
Yes, it was a typo! Sorry I made it more confusing.
And, I didn't really mean to start the whole bumper debate. Oopsie! Like I said before, I'm undecided and that's why we want to get the full set.
Yeah, that's why I'd like to get a set. I feel like we'll use most, if not all, of it down the road.
Thanks to all - you've answered my question on the flat sheets!
