I just "gave" S2 some puffs the other night. I just put it on his tray. It took him awhile to grasp it, but he shoved it into his mouth. He wasn't impressed, but I'll keep doing it.
With G it was a bit different. First we started solids with him a full month later, and his pincer grasp took a bit longer to fully develop. I offered him his first puffs at 7.5m. By 14.5m I was putting puffs on top of his pureed food for him. Actually it was the only way to bribe him to eat the pureed green veggies: if I put a puff on top.
Wow, I have noooo idea when I started w/the finger foods! I'm sure he was around the same age as D. I basically just did it when he showed me he was ready. You know, grabbing for my food, making the sad hungry face when other people are eating, etc. I say go ahead and experiment and see how he does. Then, once he grasps that a little more take full advantage of it and go out to eat a lot! That was the best -we'd just toss a few cheerios on the table and he'd go at them forever while we ate and chatted away. Man I miss those days!
I wasn't a huge fan of puffs, but we did Cheerios at about 9 months. DS was still just mastering swallowing food at 7 months. By 10 months he wouldn't take a pureed anything so that whole phase went fast.
I also gave her apple with the peel taken off (the whole apple) , teething biscuits. At dinner I "bird feed" her. chew up or use a food mill to grind what I am eating, then put it in a little ball in front of her.

Baby mum mums are also easy and Dylan loves them. We also had great luck with tofu around 9months. I forget when you can add yogurt but I think it might be soon.

Yup, pretty much.
