Becoming a mother has made me socially awkward

I feel like I have no clue how to hang out with people anymore. I've always had a big group of friends, but now I'm the old married lady. I usually don't mind, but now I feel like I don't know how to act. My friend invited me to a Pleasure Party this weekend, which I would usually be so excited about, but I'm kinda freaking out. All my stories are either about spit up or how excited I am that Louie's starting to tripod. Usually I would just take a few shots with them, but I'm BFing so no go on that. I never thought having a kid would make me so socially awkward!

    Try talking about the weather or news.  Maybe talk about how you are feeling awkward.  Shrug, I'm a pretty candid person and would also talk about needing the toys blah blah...

    As for the not taking any shots...well, a song comes to mind:

    "you don't have to take your, clothes off, to have a good time...oh no"

    Also with you on this.  The handful of times I've gone out to social events or had friends over after the baby's in bed, I've done one of two things.  Either have a couple of drinks and just plan if she wakes up during the night to give her milk which was expressed ahead of time.  Or just talk about where you are at--but instead of focusing on the mundane aspects of motherhood which they would probably have trouble relating to, talk about how much your life has changed and how you are trying to learn to balance your need for a social life with the fact that taking care of LO basically dictates most of what you do all day, every day.  And whatever else is going on in your life.

    I totally understand. Maybe try to make some jokes about feeling socially awkward?

    Im sure you will get your groove back with your girlfriends once the party gets started.

    I think that if you start talking about how you feel socially awkward, you run the risk of feeling even more awkward bc you are talking about it. Before you go, tale a deep breath and give yourself a little pep talk about how you are feeling and that you are going to have a great time!
