Preemies

Anything in particular to add to registry for a preemie?

Hi ladies!

So our baby shower is coming up in a few weeks, and I was just wondering if any preemie moms had particular things they couldn't have lived without once they brought their babies home from the NICU. DH and I registered eons ago before we had Michaela 13 weeks early, and I'm just trying to think if there's anything I should add to my registry now that we have a preemie instead of a full-termer.

Thanks!

I bought Reid the newborn Boppy lounger (Boppy w/a bottom) and he LOVED it.  He felt snuggled in and secure.  Also the FP Rock and Sleep is worth every dime.  I wish I would have bought it sooner.  On nights that he was fussy I was able to put him in it and slide it next to my side of the bed.  Now that he is older he enjoys rocking in it.

preemies are notoriously gassy, so I would make sure you have a vibrating chair of some sort. DD didn't have reflux issues, but I know a lot of preemies do and you'll want them elevated then as well.

Honestly, that's about all I can think of.

  • I added an Angel Care Monitor - I also made sure that my car seat minimum weight limit was 4-5 pounds since my LO is tiny.  I added a comfort snuggler for the inside of the car seat on nurses recommendation to fill in the space she wont be using.  And I switched bassinetts to one with an inclined sleeper for her reflux.

  • I agree with all of the PP's. The rock and play, boppy newborn lounger, vibrating chair, and Moby (ERGO or some type of carrier) would all be my recommendations too.  My LO has reflux too and we go through a TON of burp cloths (well we use cloth diapers as burp cloths) so maybe get some extra ones.
  • On top of all those, an activity gym/mat to lie LO under. A tummy time mirror to keep her interested in play time. One of each brand of bottles. Samuel went through 14 different brands before finding "the one." Antibacterial wipes for baby. :) We go through those a lot. A rectal thermometer. I use all these things often.

Ditto to our faves: FP rock and play, a bouncer, Angel Care monitor, lots of bibs and burp cloths..

A guest gave us a basket with dozens of different antibacterial products, from small diaper bag sized bottles to the huge Purell refill bottles. No other give brought tears to my eyes than that one.

    This.  SUCH peace of mind.

  • I agree on the RNP sleeper.  We did not use this at night but it was so great for during the day- a must have.  Other items-

    1.  A variety of bottles.

    2.  A video monitor- we had son in our room for 6 weeks and if not for the video monitor and being able to watch him all night long, he would still be in my room.

    3.  Size 1 diapers- LOL.  My son came home at 7 lb 4 oz after 11 weeks in NICU and was already in size 1s.

    4.  Aden and Anais muslin blankets- these will be a lifesaver when going out to cover baby/car seat.  So many great uses for these.

    5.  If you are a pumper, a Simple Wishes hands free bra and Lansinoh breastmilk storage bags.

    6.  Itzbeen timer- only used it for first 6  weeks, but it was a lifesaver for me.

    7.  A bouncer that actually bounces.  Shockingly some of these just vibrate and that bouncing motion is also a lifesaver.
