I don't even know if anything is wrong...so I guess I'm just wondering if this seems normal.
My DS has been eating (ebf) around the clock at 12, 3, 6 and 9 since he was two weeks old. Around 2 months, he cut out the 12am feeding, so we were down to 7 feedings per day.
Last week he had his 4 month shots, and since then he has been eating at such crazy times, usually choosing sleep over eating. For example, today he woke up at 3am to eat, ate at 6am, and then at 9am. He should have been ready to eat at 12, but instead when I tried to feed him he just screamed and then went to sleep and has been sleeping since. Which means, he's gone 5 hours without eating. This wouldn't normally concern me, but this has been the trend all week. =/
Is it normal for my baby to all of the sudden just cut out a feeding? Does it have anything to do with his shots? Bah!
Also, because he has been eating at such weird times, I feel like my body isn't producing as much milk lately (I'm normally an over producer). I could pump right now (since he skipped the 12pm feeding), but if he wakes up within the hour, I want to have enough for him...
Advice?
Re: Is it weird for my baby to skip a feeding?
I am not a EBF but I was always told that now matter how much you pump there will always be more for LO if something happens and they want more right after.
LO's can skip a feeding now and then, expecially if it was a busy day. If you are concerned he is sleeping to often and it is because of the shots you could always give you pedi a call and ask what they think.
But, I think you LO is fine, perhaps he just doesnt need as much right now. I am sure he will eat when he is hungry.
I think it's fine since LO just had shots...but I would call pedi tomorrow just to make sure.
Side note - I'm amazed that you guys have such a schedule going. I feed on demand and don't have a clue when he last ate, how long he ate for - I just go with the flow. I think I should start trying to get somewhat of a routine. Not to mention that he eats pretty much every 2 hours during the day. I'd love to get to every 3.
Thanks!
I was like a crazy FTM when we came home from the hospital because I wrote EVERYTHING down in a little notebook - when he ate, what side, from what time to what time, when he was changed, how much poop. Haha. It's funny now, but from writing everything down, I was able to see where the trends were, and it seemed like he was always wanting to eat around 3, 6, 9 and 12...so we just went with it! Suited me just fine because I love schedules...but now the little man is changing on me!
