When did you start internals?

Hi am going to ask my doc next week, but curious when you typically start internals? When they increase appointments to every week (around 36)?

That would depend on your dr. Some start as early as 36 weeks. Mine won't do them until 39 weeks.

I had one at 32 weeks because of cramping but they normally would not do the first one until 37 weeks.

This doc starts them at 38 weeks. For my last pregnancy at another practice, I think it started at 37 weeks. I'm not looking forward to it. i remember the first one hurt like hell last time!

Normally my doc starts them at 36 weeks, but I had one a week early due to other issues. And although a PP said it hurt like hell, that is not everyone's experience so don't worry too much about it. Each one I've had is uncomfortable just like a regular pelvic exam.

Mine doesn't normally do them until 39-40 weeks. With DD #1 I didn't have one until I was 40 weeks. With this baby I just had one today (38 weeks) but that was due to do different reasons.

Your exactly right, in my case at least.

he did my first internal at the first appt that I started coming in weekly...at 36 weeks.

Just went Tuesday and haven't had one yet. My OB switched me to weekly at 35/36 weeks.

it's where they look at your cervix for effacement and dialation...

My MWs only do one at 36 weeks when they do the GBS test... and yeah that's it...

i only had one internal at my 38 weeks appt and i was already contracting and had DS the next morning. There really isnt much reason for them to check you if you arent contracting or past due or anything like that. I dont think my NP would have ever checked me, but i had been to l&d the night before with contractions so she wanted to see if i was progressing

This for me too, the particular doctor (that I prefer to see in my practice - he delivered DD) I go to does it every week leading up to.

I am almost 39 weeks and I haven't had one yet. I had a pap test done around 12 weeks but nothing since. I have an appointment today so maybe they will check today. Although the doctor that I am sending today looks like John Denver so I don't know if I really want him down there poking around.

This morning! LOL! My ob office doesn't start them until 39 weeks b/c they can start labor early.
