Re: POLL

  • I will take your poll in a minute but I guess I will want to answer with both. I DO feel bad for that baby inside of that lady who is smoking or drinking while carrying the lo.

But I just don't think you have a right to say...oh she did everything wrong and she got a healthy baby and I did everything right and to the book (followed all my doc advice) and I didn't get a healthy baby ... that is wrong.....

  • Again, didn't say that. I was talking about fears of this happening. Fears of not having a healthy baby when I try to do everything right. Maybe you missed something in my original post.

Again, didn't say that. I was talking about fears of this happening. Maybe you missed something in my original post.

    I will quote you

"Then I look at people who drink their entire pregnancy and have a perfectly healthy baby. They were doing everything wrong and were blessed with a healthy baby.

Then here's me doing everything right and could end up losing the baby or not having a healthy baby."

    DOn't you remember saying this............

This is what you said that I didn't agree with.

  • I feel disgusted. Smoking during pregnancy is one of the things I have zero tolerance for. I understand smokers at the beginning who may need to wean themselves off in order to quit (I am a former smoker myself so I get how hard it is to stop cold turkey) but I do not think it is okay to continue to smoke throughout your pregnancy.

ETA: did you add the drinking part into the poll? I think an occasional glass of wine or something (small) in the 3rd trimester is okay. But some people obviously think that is wrong. We all take risks and chances with our pregnancies and we all have an idea of what is okay (and not okay) for us and for others. Some people drink more than the recommended caffeine, some people eat uncooked hotdogs, some people smoke, some people have a drink, etc... there are degrees, I think, to which we take risks within what is comfortable/familiar to us.

  • Oh I remember saying it.   Thanks for the quote.

I said "could" or "not"... didn't say that I wasn't having a healthy baby because I did everything right. I never said that I was angry at the person for drinking.  Jealous, maybe that I COULD potentially not have a healthy pregnancy or lose the baby doing everything possible for a healthy and happy pregnancy.  I was never placing judgement.

I'm done with this. I said what I needed to say and you can feel whatever way you want about the words I put down in a simple post about FEARS, not judgement.

Meow... thanks for the poll. I know many of us might have some feelings about women who are careless (or truly need help and aren't able to get it or choose not to) and we are all entitled to that feeling.

  • this is like, if you saw a mother driving with her baby in her lap, would you report her, or just keep driving and forget about it. the image would be burned in my mind forever.

This is stupid.  Anyone can say practically whatever they want (I won't get into the constitutional exceptions)...that's called Freedom of Speech.  She certainly has the RIGHT to say what she said and you can be as butthurt over it as you want, but the fact remains the still has the RIGHT.

Yes, I have a right to say that I thought that was pretty harsh to say.

I was thinking it would be so nice if they could keep their drama to just one thread ....

Are you dense?  You said that someone doesn't have the RIGHT to say something.  I said that was stupid because they absolutely DO have the RIGHT to say it.

  • I don't judge.  I quit smoking the day I found out I was pregnant, but have had friends who weren't able to quit.  And I completely understand that feeling.  Its effing HARD...and my doctor told me not to quit cold turkey when I did quit, because of the stress it would put on my body.  Drinking is different.  I don't judge women who have a drink here or there, because there's actually evidence that it is good for mom and baby.  Getting drunk?  That's inexcusable for me, but their choice.  It is none of my business what a woman does with her body and unborn child.

I agree. Quitting is hard. It's not just a matter of the mental strength you need, it is the physical aspect that is hard. It's addictive. But at some point, I just think there's no excuse to continuing. There are so many resources nowadays for quitting- hotlines and groups and people in real life and doctors. There's gums and patches, etc...I would rather see a woman slowly weaning herself off over the course of a few months then just not try at all. I'm sure there are mommies out there are trying to quit- just want to say best of luck. I don't mean to seem harsh. I know how hard it can be but you can do it. I smoked for 7 years and while I never had to try to quit while pg I am so glad that I stopped. Best decision I ever made for myself.

Now how 'bout some puppies and rainbows?

I'm hanging in there...m/s is kicking my butt, the bloat is out of control, and a variety of other fun things.  I'm counting down the days until 2nd tri.  How about you, how are you doing?

I remember seeing you around before I left...you were there while i was in and out, lol.  BFP in March kept me away for a while, then I came back, then I left again in April.

I'm doing ok. It's still pretty new so we are getting used to the idea. I have good days with almost no symptoms and bad days when i feel like I'm being beaten by the symptom stick.  Wouldn't trade it for anything though - not even a drink or a smoke. ;)
