Nicknames for Gabriella, what do you prefer? Clicky

I'm very much falling in love with the name Gabriella. We really want a "longer" more formal name but to have it shortend to a nickname. Gabriella seems to have many possible Nicknames, and I love them all!

When she's older, she can go by what she wants. But i'm just curious to see what everyone prefers for a nickname?

Also, do you prefer Gabriella or Gabrielle? I prefer Gabriella but DH prefers Gabrielle.

If Ell is prn "L", how are you pronouncing Elle? Also like "L"? Like Ellie? (I do have a cousin named Elle who prn is Ellie so I was curious)

To me it seems the locigal nn would be Gabi. I thikn Bree is a bit of a stretch IMO. I mean, I see how it works, but...

And I prefer Gabriella. I think it has a prettier ring to it.

I like Gabrielle, but I may be in the minority here. I am also confused by the option of Gabe (man's name?); much prefer Gabby/Gabi/Gabee for a nn. I did not vote to do my lack of understanding. Big Smile

I'm not a fan of Gabi, but i can deal with it if that's what happens....and i really think if she goes by her nickname then no one will even call her Gabi (again, unless that's what she wants!). Most people probably won't even know her full name is Gabriella. they will just know her by her nickname.

As for the nickname Gabe, I love it. I went to high school with a girl who went by Gabe and it suited her great. I know it's primely a "Male" dominant name, but so was "Riley" or "Jamie" and they both turned into girl names! Sometimes different can be a good thing!

But I really love Bree and Ella for nicknames right now. So many options! I think that's one for the reasons why I love Gabriella so much right now.

Gotcha! I think I was confused b/c the others imo are so girly. Then Gabe gets my vote 100%!

I vote for Gabi/Gabby, which wasn't a choice (unless you meant Gabe to be pronounced that way).

I like Ella/Elle/Ellie, but those names are sooooo common right now since they are nicknames for Isabelle, Isabella, Anabel, Elizabeth, Eleanor, Eloise, or just standalone names.

Gabby/Gabi however she wants to spell it. I think the other nicknames you put up are a bit of a reach. If you want to call her Bree, name her Bree. Same with Ella. Gabriella is a beautiful name but none of those NN's naturally follow. It's like I have a friend Jacqueline and her parents called her Lynn her whole life. Doesn't make any sense and her first name is beautiful (and had to explain it to every single person when her formal name came up, including at her wedding ceremony when it was awkward with everyone at the church asking who is Jacqueline???)

I love boy sounding names for girls - I think using Gabe is super cute. I would never have thought of that as an option, just the predictable, but very sweet, Gabby! (Although doesn't that just make you think of Eva Longoria's charcater in Desperate Housewives - and her character is not the most aspiring role model!) Wink

Are you sure you are thinking of Gabe (pn Gay-b) or Gab (rhymes with Cab)

Gabe doesn't seem to be a natural NN for Gabriella, but Gab is.

We were going to use the NN Bree for our hypothetical Gabriella.

I am, for the most part, anti-nickname. Gabriella is SOOOO beautiful the way it is, I would probably just wait until she is born and then see what you and your DH end up calling her, whatever it is, it will just come to you naturally. Family might have a natural NN for her too.

ETA: Elle, Ellie, and Ella are all becoming quite common, imo.

My precious girl is Gabrielle so I have to vote that! Her nickname is Gabi and it just fits her - she is petite with big blue eyes and I can't imagine her as anything other than Gabrielle/Gabi We liked Gabrielle since it has a more classic/French ring rather than a Spanish feel.

I like Gabrielle and Gabriella...the only nn that I dont like is Gabby. The other ones are popular but cute nonetheless. GL deciding girl! Can't wait to see what you actually end up going with!!

Eh, I disagree with this. My cousin is Gabrielle and everyone calls her Bri. It's the second syllable in the name. Not that much of a stretch.
