Babywise

Has anyone done this? Does it work?

Re: Babywise

  • I have heard negative things about it, and babies have suffered from failure to thrive....what is working for Liam is bedtime routine and age.....he went from every hour to giving us 6 hours in a row in the last 2 weeks, hes 6.5 weeks now.

  • I read the book and I'm incorporating parts of it into our routine. DD does better with consistency and is thriving. Our current routine is breastfeed, change the diaper, between half an hour to an hour of wake time, and then she naps until her next feeding. We do this every three hours except at night when she goes straight back to sleep after changing. The past few nights she'll sleep five hours for that first stretch from 9pm to 2am. But I'm also flexible with it. If she gets hungry earlier, I'll feed her or if she stays awake the whole time before feedings, thats fine too. You just got to find what works for you and your LO.

  • The people I know that tried it didn't like it. I don't know anything about it, but I'm not doing any sort of scheduling for DS until at least three months. With time he has started to create his own schedule. Last night he slept from 9:30-5 and 5:30-8.

  • I credit this routine for my sanity!!  I love the Babywise principles and my baby is doing Awesome and gaining 1lbs a week.  I don't follow every little detail but have incorporated the big concepts.  We have done it since day one and she has been on a schedule since day two.  Which is super awesome when you have two kids.  The main things I've done is make sure she gets full feedings when she eats and we follow the sleep, eat, wake routine.  My LO can fall asleep on her own in the crib if she needs too.  There are plenty of times I rock her to sleep, but it is because I want to and not because she can't fall asleep unless I do.  Also, we get up once a night for feedings and go between 4 and 5 hours in between.  She had one STTN, but it was too soon for that and I had a very cranky baby the whole next day.   I think it is worth reading and apply the techniques that work for you.

  • I read it, but I don't remember every detail. I decided that something more like the Baby Whisperer's methods were better for our family. They follow the same sequence- eat, awake, sleep.
