Anyone's LO have a strawberry hemangioma?

My LO has a little red bump that looks like a strawberry hemangioma- go to the dr tomorrow but any experience with them? LO is almost 10 weeks old- will it get really big?

Re: Anyone's LO have a strawberry hemangioma?

  • My DD has one behind her ear and it is about the size of nickel. It wasn't there when she was born, but showed up at about 3 weeks. My pedi said that the majority of them don't pose any problem (depending on where they are located.) He said that the 'growing' phase is typically one year, then it might remain the same for a few years and most of them start going away by age 5 or so. My LO is now almost 3 months and it hasn't gotten any bigger since it appeared.

  • DD has one on her lower back. Her pedi isn't worried about it because it's still the same size and color as it was when she was born.

  • DD has one on her forehead.  It was just a small red spot when she was born.  Now it is larger and sticks out a bit.  We were told it was no real concern, it would likely grow for a while but eventually go away.

  • DD has a tiny one on the pad of her left thumb, it hasn't changed since the day she was born.

  • Gav has one on his head.  I showed up about two weeks and grew a little.  Now it has been about the same size (maybe 1/3 inch) and sits up above his skin.  It does get really red when he is not so happy :)  The doctor today said not to worry they will typically recede and disappear by age 5!

  • DD has one on her head.  The pedi said nothing to worry about--the would only worry if it were on her eyelids and could impede her vision, or perhaps on her face for cosmetic reasons.  Pedi also said they call it a "strawberry" so parents don't get concerned, but I still worry about it a little bit.

  • Yep, on his chest.  It showed up a few weeks after he was born.  It's grown a bit (maybe 3/4" in diameter) and is raised.  Everything I read said they should be totally gone by age 10.

TTC since May 2006. After 3 failed Clomid cycles, 2 failed Injectibles/IUIs, 2 failed IVFs and 1 failed FET, we moved on to adoption!
