We got both kids a P'Kolino Little Reader chair for their first birthdays.
Is she walking yet? That makes a difference in what I'm about to recommend. My kids were both good walkers at one, so the things they loved were a ride on toy, and pull toys (like a dog on a leash thing). Also musical instruments, big peg puzzles like the 3 piece Melissa and Doug ones, Mega Blocks or the biggest Lego's (not Duplos, the ones bigger than those), an activity table maybe (although neither of my kids ever cared about these unless they were at someone else's house). You know though what's the biggest hit? A balloon.

Alivia is standing & furniture walking so far. :-)
My kids loved the fisher price laugh and learn house they got from the grandparents. We got them anywhere chairs which they have loved and use all the time. They also really like little people, balls and books.

Some big hits at that age were simple wooden puzzles and a mini 2-octave piano. Looking back there are a few things we got later that would've been good starting at 1-year - nesting/stacking boxes, mega blocks, play kitchen.
We just gave them some books then signed them up for Little Gym around 18 months. They both got anywhere chairs from my parents and love them. Also Melissa & Doug alligator walker is ahuge hit in our house.
