2nd Birthday...

I'm torn on what to do for Jackson's 2nd birthday. His first was HUGE (tradition in my husband's culture) so I'm kind of on the fence about doing it half the size or not at all (just immediate family) considering how much we spent for the 1st.

What are you/did you plan on for your kiddo's 2nd birthday?

Re: 2nd Birthday...

  • I felt exactly the same way... DH really wanted to do something for her though so we ended up doing a small party at home with just family and our closest friends. Pizza and costco cake. Since J's is in the summer, maybe just a small GTG at the park? There is one on silver lake (next to Emorys restruant) that has a picnic shelter and is pretty small, not too crowded (like the Silver Lake park can be).

  • I'm just doing a small birthday play date for Lila this year.  Really small, actually.  As in, I think it will literally us and the families of her 3 best buddies that she sees all the time.  Play time in the backyard and use the Groupon I have for a dozen Trophy cupcakes.  Done.

I kind of always knew that I wanted a blow out for her first bday and then would take it easy after that.  Well, at least until she knows what's what.  :)

  • We did a big party for the first, and pretty much nothing for the second.  We celebrated it, the three of us, and around his birthday grandparents came by an we would do a little celebration then too.

TTC #2 for a million years: SA normal, CD 23 bloodwork shows nothing amiss, ovulation detected. Next step: ? maybe CD3 bloodwork to check eggs? All out of pocket, so limited IF tests/treatments.
  • Yeah, I've started thinking about this too...

    # 1 was a pretty big party at our house. It was fun and cheap but a ton of people. So we will probably go much smaller with # 2. We will probably just invite 5 little friends and their parents - maybe a park play date or maybe at our house (Sept is so iffy).

And then for family - I'm going to leave it up to the Grandma's. Both our families get together often so we'll just add the festivities onto a family dinner I'm guessing. I bet they make a cake and get him presents (which we usually request none) so that will be plenty fun.

  • We just did a small thing with close friends at our house.

  • I felt the same way, plus I was pregnant and it was right after Christmas. I just didn't feel like stressing about it. We ended up going to the children's museum and lunch with our friends and their kids (the boys' friends). Then at home we did presents and cupcakes that I made for them. It was nice to keep it low-key and just spend the day with them.

  • We did a medium sized party at my parents house with a bouncy house and food. It was more than I wanted to do, but isn't that always how it works? I'm on the fence about the 3rd. We may do something in August (she's an Oct baby), so we can mix it up a little. Prob just family this year, though.

HOWEVER she had a freakin' blast last year so......

  • We did a medium sized party for the 1st bday, and a medium sized party for the 2nd, and as long as I havent gone completely insane from having 3 kids, we will have a medium sized party for his 3rd =)   There were definitely less parties this year than last, so I think that not doing a 2nd bday party is pretty common.

  • We did a smaller party for his 2nd birthday, we did it at a local gym so I did just friends with kids about his age. I don't know what we'll do for the 3rd.

  • We just did a playcenter with 10 of Coop's  best buddies & a couple of his cousins fro his 2nd birthday. He had a ball and the best thing was that all I had to do was bring the cake, nothing else and no mess to clean up at the end of the day. So I would say that both Coop and I LOVED it!

  • I dont do huge parties for any of them.  All but M's 3rd were at home, with our playgroup/close friends and family; snacks and cupcakes.

  • I keep the boys parties really small. Just family, no friends. I always do a big deal with a theme though. I love the details of the party.

  • We invited the same exact people to his 2nd as his first but it was only family and a few close friends.  I'm sure this year it will only be us since all of our family is hours away.

I did Little Gym the year I was pg with W! Best party! It was hard for me to not do detail things, but I still tried to put my touch on it.  It was so nice and easy, no getting ready, no clean up and they entertained the kids!

  • For DD's 2nd birthday we had a small family party just cupcakes and presents. On her actual birthday DH and I took the day off and we took her to the Aquarium and had lunch in Seattle. It was so nice, plan on doing something similar for DS for his 2nd birthday.
