High-Risk Pregnancy

New to this board. Baby measuring 2 weeks behind. Answers?

So, I'm getting such conflicting information I don't know what to think. My 1st U/S @ about 20wks showed the baby's head measuring small. My Dr. said don't worry we'll keep an eye on it. I had another U/S @ about 24-25wks and it showed the baby's head and abdomen small (but legs on track) by about 2 weeks. I did a NST which came back fine but my Dr. sent me to High Risk. I have since had a BPP U/S and another growth U/S. The BPP was fine but the U/S still shows a 2 week growth deficit. The Dr. in high risk doesn't seem to know what is going on and even suggested that my dates might be off. However, he said they are going by my LMP which is 100% accurate. I have researched different scenarios for me to have a due date that is later but every time, the due date ends up the same as if I used my LMP. ( I am confident of my conception timeframe as well). I just don't know what to think. I go in for another U/S next week. I'm just confused and trying not to get worked up. The baby is moving fine and my fluids are fine as well. Anyone have a similar experience? TIA Sorry so long!

  • I have had weekly NSTs and BPP u/s due to slow growth and low fluid since Week 28 (34 wks now).  My Drs told me that if my fluid was normal they wouldn't be as concerned about the slow growth.  However, they also said they it's normal to measure up to 2 wks behind/ahead of your dates.  What's more important is your baby's overall growth percentile.

If a baby is below 10th percentile, it's considered IUGR.  Sometimes this can happen slowly or suddenly.  At 25 wks, my LO was 26th percentile (tummy was measuring a little small, but High Risk drs weren't concerned).  At 28 weeks, he had dropped to the 11th percentile.  When something like that happens, it's usually a problem with the placenta (slow blood flow, pre-eclampsia, etc).  My LO stayed around the 11th-14th percentile for a month, and then dropped to about 7th last week.  So they are watching me carefully to make sure he's not in distress.

I'm sorry if that didn't answer all of your questions.  But, I suspect that your dr will be keeping an eye on the growth (overall), movement, and fluid levels.  Stay very well hydrated and try to take it easy - if your LO is having slow growth, the best thing you can do is not stress your body and keep your fluid levels good.

Hope that helps a little bit!  Oh, and if your LO is little/IUGR, rest assured that I've been told they usually catch up to their peers within a year of birth.  T&Ps!

This is pretty much me, although ours started a little earlier, and I'm having twins.  They were pretty close together through week 24.  At week 24, Baby A measured in the 51st percentile and Baby B was in the 31st.  At week 26, A was in the 38th and B was in the 24th.  At week 28, A was in the 31st and B was in the 21st.  At week 29, A was still in the 31st and B was in the 8th.  After our appt (which was Monday of last week), we started every other day NSTs and BPPs.  They both passed all tests, but B was diagnosed with mild Oligohrydramnios (low fluid), although he has had low-normal fluids since the beginning -- the tech just decided to diagnose it.  (My peri said it doesn't matter much, as the level has maintained.)  B has also been categorized as IUGR, as of this week.

I was diagnosed with Pre-E on Saturday and have been on hospitalized bedrest since, and will remain here until the twins arrive.  I have daily NSTs to check on them and twice a week BPPs (Tuesdays and Fridays).

Both have gained 8oz in 5 days, though, so bedrest seems to be helping the situation for us.

    Thinking of you!!!

  • I'm glad the bedrest seems to be helping, although I know its probably not the most fun for you. My T&P are with you and it gives me courage to know how positive you all are being!

    Thanks so much!
